Is Daily Concealed Carrying An Acceptance Of A Pessimistic View Of Life/Humanity?

I'm pro-gun, pro-carry; however, I've never taken the step of carrying on my self. I guess I've always felt like the day I do is the day I admit to subscribing more to a pessimistic view of life and people than otherwise, and I don't think I'm quite there yet. I also live in a general area that I don't perceive as dangerous to my family or me.

That said, there are places, such as New Orleans, that I won't travel through without a firearm in the vehicle if I can help it. There have also been random violent incidents in otherwise "safe" public places where I never would have thought to carry, such as the mass shooting at the Cucos restaurant in Hattiesburg, MS.

Then there are the extremes of perspective, like those who refuse to even answer their door or mow their grass without carrying versus those who wouldn't carry even in a warzone.

So what are your reasons behind the decision to carry or not carry daily?

I’d rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

ETA and I’m not one of the “tharrr tryin to take muh guns” types. Just seems logical to have one most of the time.

I don't carry, or own a gun.

I also don't live my life scared of what could possibly happen to me.

Yep. Have had enough things happen to people around me in the city, including a roommate who was nearly stabbed to death.

Goes to show how everyone's perspective is different for a variety of reasons.

I mean, I guess.

I lived there for 5 years and never felt the need to have a gun, much less carry one on my person.

ETA: I just think it's a bit much to feel the need to have to carry in your vehicle while passing through New Orleans. What parts of the city are you going to?

Do you carry a spare tire and jack in your vehicle?

There are crazy people out there as well as opportunistic predators among us. This is why I carry. Come up on me... particularly when I am with my wife and son... and I guarantee shite will escalate faster than you can begin to imagine. Not a bluff, just a simple truth.

Not only do I carry but I carry into movie theatres, restaurants, and stores. Pretty much anywhere except for a bar. You don’t have to carry. If/when some shite goes down pray to god that someone like me is close enough to bail you out.

This is my favorite argument - "I've never felt unsafe so carrying a gun is unnecessary"

Also pro-gun, pro-carry although I don't actually carry, but it is an admission that our society is messed up.......but then again, if you were a hunter back in the mesozoic era, you'd also get jacked by other hunters if they wanted your spear.

Better to have the opportunity to defend yourself than none at all

I'm not walking around carrying down there, either. But I avoid certain areas now that I might have gone to in the past. And I'm not risking breaking down somewhere without a gun in the car if I can help it. Guess I feel on heightened alert in NO than in other areas.

This sounds exhausting.

This is also a very valid point.

I like to think that I don't put myself in situations where I will need a gun. I know those situations can't always be avoided, but many times they can.

Getting a flat isn't really a question of if, but when.

A gun, while certainly helpful, is not required to protect your family and being dependent on one does them no favors when you are in one of thousands of places where guns are not allowed.

Most people feel this way until they’re being robbed and then they be all like “I wish I had a gun”
