That's just how Texas is. The Valley and West Texas are a "whole 'nother country" compared to the Dallas/Houston/San Antonio triangle.

But five (now six) pages and no mention that Corpus is the home of the original Whataburger? I think it was across the street from the Del Mar College campus. They moved corporate to San Antonio a few years ago; I think Corpus people with money (and the Valley) aspire to move to San Antonio.

We had to fight the Mexicans more than once to keep the border from being the Nueces River instead of the Rio Grande, in that area.

I think so, simply because there's more money to be made in SA, Austin, etc.

That said, it's the 6th largest port in the country with a new, larger bridge on the way which will allow for continued growth. The petroleum industry really keeps the city progressing.

Most valley people I meet are pretty settled. I have about 20-30 customers with 100s of people I work with down there and most of them are from the valley and stayed.

I will say that while I'm sure it's there, it's one of the least racist places I've ever been. Everybody just does life together.

You want to talk about the land of the haves and have not's ... it's Corpus Christi. The 20% of white people own everything and then it's just a shite load of Mexicans.

Also something you wouldn't know… The McAllen area is soon to be one of the biggest in the United States. It's huge.

Brother in law has a condo on the beach. We catch some big speckled trout in the bay. Not a lot of fish but big. I like listening to the Mexican captains on the radio.

I do a lot in Harlingen and McAllen. A lot of money there as well. Won't be dove hunting there though.

The tallest building there is shorter than the LA state Capitol.

The building in the right of the pic I posted looks to be about 50 stories.

Curious as to what sort of business are filling up that place.

RGV is very tight knit. As for racism it hardly exists since pretty much everyone is bilingual to an extent. There are more hispanics than whites, so being one of the few whites in school you're subject to the "gringo" and "güero" type insults but its no biggie. White dudes love latinas, latinas love whites, and white chicks dig black/azn...another reason the culture is so diverse

A lot of hispanics are keen to stay close to home/family when they're ready to settle. When you're growing up, going to UT or SA is a common goal, or anywhere but home. But like i said earlier, amazing place to grow up/visit.

McAllen is the entertainment hub, Harlingen medical, Brownsville industrial.

Well, it's in Texas, so I always assumed it looked like this:

That's Cairo Illinois. My daddy owned a couple bars and a hotel that he ran whores out of back in the towns golden years.
