Actually, isn't that what caused the split of SCV/MOSB about 15-20 years ago? I want to say at one point the MOS&B leadership was veering toward the overtly racist side, and so SCV parted ways with them, and then MOS&B had a complete restricting and has now back to being more in the correct way of thinking.

Thats what you guys don't understand...you do not have to hate to be a racist. If you believe as my ancestor did that blacks are inferior or hold less value to the White man because of the darker color of their skin then you are a racist.

Our camp is the same way. We had one guy attend a meeting who was obviously an overt racist. We politely told him to not return. We welcome anyone to attend our meetings as they are open to the public. They are free to draw their own opinions. We mostly discuss history and genealogy.

We could be cousins if you are tied to one of the Am Rev soldiers that moved to Alabama. I have an Alexander, Garrison, Inman, and Stephenson in my line. I've not done the paperwork to join yet though.
I definitely have some Confederates in there, but will pass on joining the SCV. I've considered joining the SUVCW with a few of my Alabama Unionist forebearers.

Why not join both? The actual combatants went to reunions together. If they could embrace each other later, why can't we? They were men of better natures than we are today.

I’m a member of SCV. I’m not racist and joined to honor my ancestors. One killed at Cornith, one killed at Murfreesboro, and one captured at Vicksburg. They were not slave holders just regular honorable people who believed in the rights of the states over the federal government. There is no watt that I would ever be embarrassed by their service to the state of Mississippi and Ultimately to the confederacy.

On a side note, I'm not following why anyone would care if your family fought for a different country. I suppose I'd be proud but I don't know if I'd start a group for the Sons of Irish Soldiers.
