I'm not going to pretend to know what my great great grandfather thought. He was a sharecropper who worked the land alongside the slaves. He had no power, owned no land, and fought because an invading army was ravaging his home.
He was a coon arse, and as such his place in society was no higher than the slave, so I doubt he had the power to be a racist.

Are the Sons the KKK...no. Are KKK members in the Sons...damn right they are. Were they burning crosses and wearing white hoods at the gatherings I attended? No. Were those same men at my home later for a bbq or crawfish boil dropping the N-word, talking crazy about mixed picaninny kids and how blacks moving to the neighborhood are dropping property values, etc. Damn right! My great great grandfather was in the 36th Mississippi Regiment - Company F. Enlisted in Meridian (1862) and fought at the Siege of Vicksburg for 40 days. Surrendered in Mobile (1865) as a sergeant. I’m proud of my roots.

My wife and her family can all register with Sons/Daughters of the Revolution. She has family lines that served in the confederacy. She don’t claim that part publicly, though.
Their great great grandfather delivered mail by pirogue and also captained the Church (boat) on Sundays. They (Family) own a shite ton of The swamp and land on the east side of the Atchafalaya. If you’re a descendent of the Carlin’s (Carlini’s), we’re cousins.

C'mon man. Power has nothing to do with it. If you don't like someone because of the color of their skin you are a racist.

Anyone here the back to the order of Cincinnatus? That in my opinion is the baddest arse off all the dar/sar/ scv etc groups they are. Direct blood ties to the officers in the continental army during the revolution who were there when Washington took leave of them at fraunces tavern. I've been busting my arse trying to figure it out. There's no way for me. But surely someone here has that kind of awesome arse lineage

Not what happened though the media portrayed it that way. In reality it was just a regular old time power struggle. The MOSB guys wanted to be the leaders of the SCV, have fancy dinners and get awards. The SCV had younger members who wanted the organization to be more publicly active. Ended up in court, SCV won, MOSB out the door. I do however realize that there are now some MOSB members trying to get it back on track

I tried but was ineligible. My ancestor was promoted to officer in the field, but only a year before leaving service. You needed to be an officer for 3 years. His grandson was a Captain in the Union army.

I previously lived in a smaller Texas town and the daughters of the confederacy would post flags on the graves on soldiers every year.
I checked in recently to see what the political climate was and was told they have had Voluntary armed Individuals guarding the graves from being picked of the flags. Pretty wild.
