Is anyone here a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans?

I remember back in the day, around 20 years ago when I was in 8th grade or so, I went with my best friend and his dad to a Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting at Ryan's restaurant (dem butter rolls
) in Baton Rouge
My friend's dad was from Alabama and was a member, and he had to stand up and name who his relative was who fought in the war. Other people did this too..I'm not sure if only the new guys had to do it or if everyone had to do it. Seemed like it was mostly older men but I recall there being a good bit of people there
Is anyone here active in that organization? I see they have an active website still but I imagine this could be one of those things going the way of the dodo here pretty soon

I am not. I’d like to be, but have no confederate relatives, so that’s the issue

Nah, but I did bang a Daughter of the American Revolution once.

I am. My great great grandfather rode under JEB Stuart, and had a horse shot out from under him in the Gettysburg campaign. That horse ended up butchered and served as a meal
He was discharged shortly after the Gettysburg campaign.

I never understood these organizations. I qualify for Sons of the American Revolution, but it's just an interesting piece of family history to me. Wasn't my arse freezing in Pennsylvania getting shot at by the English. I deserve and take no credit for it.

I think remembering the history of your family is important, but that's just me. I don't really participate in any functions, other than throwing some dollars at them once a year.
If I was in the Society of Cincinnati, though, you can damn sure bet that I'd be networking all the time.

Does the state still offer that specialty license plate for your vehicle? It might be something else for people to start complaining about.

Alabama does, to my recollection.

My mother and grandmother were DAR. I was CAR. Never got involved with the Sons. They are much smaller and less active than the Daughters. I'm eligible for the SCV through multiple ancestors but haven't applied. Maybe I'll do it out of spite for all the crap that's going on.

Nice try, Antifa!!
Not a member but several of my female cousins are DAR, UDC (daughters of the Confederacy) and US Daughters of 1812. At the funeral of my aunt who did all of the genealogy research, that lady was covered with sashes and name tabs.

I’m not but I am eligible. My great grandfather was a confederate officer. My grandfather used to tell me stories about what a good man he was...not some racist bigot or anti-black hater- but an honest man who respected everyone and especially how considerate he was to women.

Still offered by the state.

My mom made me go to a DAR ball when I was in like 6th or 7th grade. I was not happy.

Ive had to work with the organization before. Nice guys, mostly. Really just enthusiastic geneaologists. Most are also in SAR and 1812. And into their world war ancestors too.
A name change and losing the battle flag insignia would solve all their future issues (cuz they coming).
