So because their parents and teachers and elders told them this from a very early age, they are at fault for believing them?

And their parents were boomers?

I heard the same thing and chose the military, a STEM major, and my own small business. I seem to remember tooking at those charts of average salaries and seeing that the STEM ones dominated the top. Not sure what chart you idiots were looking at but English, Sociology, Music, and History, and Teacher were all pretty much at the bottom or middling. I also remember being told about trade and technical schools but my Boomer parents must have been that much better than yours.

Millennials and Gen Z cohorts imagine they should be able to move from one easily commoditized job to another whenever they get bored with their current situation, what they don't understand is that constant job hopping has a bigger impact on wage stagnation than they imagine. Why should a business invest higher wages in personnel that have a tendency to move on after a few years anyway? Is it the businesses' fault a 20's or early 30's something adult is willing to accept equal or even slightly lesser wages for a given job because said adult wanted a change of scenery?

Do you have any evidence whatsoever to back this up?

I listened to my plumber bitch about this the other day. He said he can’t find any help because few people are going into the trade and opting for some
Bull shite degree in college. He said he is swamped with work. Paid him $2,500 with about $700 of it in labor.

I remember really thinking I'd prefer an office job over a trade or manual labor when I was young. I don't feel that way anymore. I'd much rather do oil changes or push grocery buggies around all day than sit in an office. I hate doing business shite like thinking, being responsible for things/people long-term, going to meetings, etc.

The problem is the money. Yes, I know a master plumber probably makes nearly as much as I do, especially if he owns a business, but that's pretty much his ceiling. And his helpers, etc. aren't making jack.

He doesn't.

It is just the same, tired old talking points that always come up in these threads.

The main difference is the competition in the workplace. Boomers with college degrees had little to no competition and could basically walk up to a job and get hired on the spot.

Today the market is saturated with college grads and most decent jobs require 5 rounds of interviews with stringent competency tests. The workforce is nothing like it was 40-50 years ago

ETA: I also have a STEM degree and own my own business

I’m pretty sure it’s is the opposite. The biggest raises almost always come from switching jobs.

Yes, because companies are so loyal these days. They want a two week notice to quit when they can lay you off with no warning while you still have work on your desk.

oh yea

unwilling to move to rural America where the jobs are

What jobs? Boomers sold their family farms to international corporations. Boomers in the rural areas are not exactly welcoming, especially if people look different than they do.

where? saying that boomers arent welcoming....well have you been around older people that are in small towns?

doesnt mean they believe one race is superior to another, but they are not always the most welcoming, especially outside of the south.

what did he make up btw

Agreed. Except those choices were made by boomers.

The only way it is possible to get a decent raise anymore is from job hopping. You think they do it because they want to change their lives in a major way frequently?

You have a very antiquated and out of touch view on life.

What’s wrong with the county is simple. Big business isnt willing to cut their own profits to pay the little guys. Simple as that. At UPS, people get ran off the clock early then the work is never done at the end of the day and management is scurrying around to finish it. They want bonuses so they fudge their numbers to make it look like everything was smooth.

I guess it really isn’t a surprise to me that you’re blaming boomers for your lack of success, financial acumen, and self accountability based on your posting history.

Feel free to show where I'm wrong, but we both know you can't.

I guess this could be where I'd cry like a bitch because you're interjecting into a thread with personal insults, but then again I'm not a bitch like you.

I don’t find it’s the boomers at all - it’s that weird generation before them - the Silent Generation is what I think they’re called.

They’re the ones that have been on congress forever and ruined everything.
