perfect example of words over actions. they will take away all the offensive imagery of angola but not do a thing about the incarceration rate.
hell they may even shut down the rodeo and fair while not doing anything about how many dudes get locked up which will make the prisoners lifes even worse

You don't generally get sent to the farm for pot possession.

I just hope it draws attention to why it's named that. A lot of people need to google map that country and see what their life could've been like.

It's aptly named. Mostly black men working in fields being watched by mostly white men riding horses carrying rifles. It's a surreal experience to drive through the grounds.

Outside of the rodeo, which I haven't been to in decades, it's a place I never want to find myself.

I'm surprised they still have the rodeo. I won't be surprised if it gets the axe.

Next what? A little more context would be helpful.

Is the majority of the population there on weed possession/paraphernalia/DUI/forgery type shite?

For some reason I always thought Angola was a pure hell for hardened and dangerous criminals.

i think angola only has hard criminals who beat ppl and kill ppl. but we should still try and lower that violent crime rate rather than rename the prison after doctor umar or some shid

In the context of other posts here with regards to products, streets, buildings and states for one being renamed because of alleged offensive conotations.
Angola is referred to as the farm and a Plantation

It is where you go if you are doing hard time like life. It was once the most violent prison in the country.

They've tried to clean that image up some over the past few decades but you definitely don't want to get sent to Angola.

How do you propose lowering the crime rate?

People are still gonna people, and you can’t stop them.

Well, alot of those folks have more invested in Angola than any university, so....sure, let em rename it whatever they want.
