When they would finally catch up to the escapee, they would be begging to go back because they had been through so much hell through the night, falling over 30 foot drops, eaten up by mosquitoes. Tired, scratched up from briars etc.

Not really. That guy whose girlfriend OD’d & was made an example out of by Hillar Moore is doing time there. Don’t know the guy but I know people who know the family & say they’re good people. Sometimes people just get fckd by the system and they’re not hardened criminals.
