Moving from Mobile to Spanish Fort in September. Feel like Spanish Fort is a great area: good schools, good property value and great location to take advantage of mobile and all the eastern shore has to offer.

The culture of the people there is shockingly boring so outside of some natural scenery that can be bested in other nearby states, hard to find a reason to live there if you aren't from there.

The Spanish Fort area is a great place to live and their sports have been great as well. You're better off there than Daphne

I did. It's a wasteland between Tuscaloosa and the western state line.
Yes that area is pitiful.
But counties that border the south side of the Tennessee River and almost all counties north of the Tennessee River are great places. And the East side of the state has some nice places as well.

Yeah.. not even comparable. Georgia is definitely a nice state and is on the rise big time but it’s not even in the same playing field as Texas. I shouldn’t even have to explain this one. I doubt Alabama is losing 8 out of 10 college grads to the state of GA like Louisiana is to Texas

And the East side of the state has some nice places as well.

Seriously considering moving to Eastern shore when I retire from the military soon. Tell me more, why choose Spanish Ft vs Daphne vs Fairhope? Area looks nice and schools seem good for my early elementary aged kids but hard to tell which town actually has best schools. How's the job market?
I like the idea of being close to a small city and beaches and driving distance to NOLA and LSU for frequent weekend visits.

Just wanted to add for the fairhope/Daphne area: public schools are terrible, both academically and athletically. So tired of driving kids across the bay for private school that I said screw it, and moving west.

In SF for elementary, there’s Spanish Fort and Rockwell, the latter being better, but both are great compared to most public schools in mobile. Both the middle and high schools are great. So are Daphne and fairhope for high school. But, if you want private, there are exceptional schools as well.
The whole area (SF, Daphne, fairhope) is blowing up. Just went through looking at a ton of houses, and there’s much to choose from. Depends on the type of area you want, and how long of a drive.
I live in SF now, 10-15 minutes to almost everything we go to regularly, it’s 25 minutes to downtown. Oh, and never use the the bayway (I10) always use the causeway.
It really is a great place. I’ve had multiple offers to move elsewhere, but none I think can offer the same as this area. Though, I’d rather live in the woods than in the city.

I’m a terrible communicator. I was agreeing with you I think....I would have been fine with big Luther. Was really just pointing out that the only reason Doug Jones is now elected is because somehow we all voted Roy Moore to be the candidate in the general.

Lived there 6 years and it was a great time for my wife and I. We miss our friends that we made there. We miss the changing of the leaves too. Was some of the best 6 years in my life. We loved it.

I liked it for sure, but I love the outdoors. It's actually the most biodiverse state, most people don't know that; 332 types of fish, 180 types of freshwater mussels, 202 types of snails, 85 types of crayfish (Louisiana has 32), 27 types of freshwater turtles - all rank first in the U.S. It ranks 3rd in amphibians and reptiles. The geological diversity is killer also:
Also, only 10% of Alabama caves have been explored, it has 132,000 miles of rivers/streams.
In short, Alabama is one of the most diverse ecologies outside of the Amazonian rain forests.
