I lived in Alabama from 2004-2006 and the place grew on me... I am heading to my friends house in late August for a visit and I am looking forward to it. It has been almost 10 years since the last time I went ,but I can't wait to see the area and how it has changed.

why choose Spanish Ft vs Daphne vs Fairhope?
I'd choose Fairhope first, then a close second Spanish Fort and then Daphne

Al.com had Fairhope the fastest growing city in the state recently. Houses avaliable are few and far between and have increased in price at a high rate the last 3-4 years. You can always find the cookie cutter subdivision houses west of 98

The advantage of Spanish Fort is the commute to Mobile (even pensacola) for much more availability of jobs. Also, if you're looking for an even more laid back pace, check out Magnolia Springs with a quicker trip to the beach and the riveria down that way

They say the same about Chattanooga

The money guys I know are all saying Chattanooga is too expensive and labor cost is on par with Nashville.

I spent a lot of time in Huntsville doing consulting work when I was younger. The area really grew on me. A good mix of people, due to NASA and Redstone Arsenal there are a lot of highly educated transplants so it doesn't feel like incestuous old family Montgomery. It still has a southern, conservative charm and a culture. The scenery is also top notch.

If I was an aerospace engineer or defense acquisition professional I'd strongly consider it, but I'm not.
