want conditioning...have the players work on their time from home to first and home to 2nd.....but understand that time between a pitch is 20s, average at bat is minimum of 3 pitches(mlb) more at HS level, and there is an average of 1 min between batters. average distance covered by a CF(which has longest average) is less than 30yards. so at most they are running 30 yards with 2 min rest between. at they do that at most 3 times before they get a 10 min rest batting in most cases.
and that is absolute worse case scenerio.
and with pitchers, we know they perform at most a 2 second all out movement then have 20s rest....so why would you want them to get slower by running long distance when the requirement of the sport is extreme explosion? 2 different energy systems
at bats are at most a 12 second all out sprint(triple) with full recovery after. as in 100% full recovery....why in the frick would someone think running poles is going to help them get faster at a all out sprint
even soccer is almost all 3-5s sprint with 60s walking between.

to be fair.....there is a huge difference between a real 7 rep emom for an hour vs
25sets of 16 every 65-70s with drills in between and being yelled at for not doing the drill correctly and having to do pushups as the punishment
big difference. both are stupid and contribute absolutely nothing to do with athletic ability but one is atleast doable for many.....the other is just plain retarded and asking to be fired.

Rhabdo is much more serious than “muscle failure”.Muscle cells rupture and intracellular contents plug up nephrons in kidneys.If severe enough can require dialysis.Also intracellular potassium is dumped into the bloodstream and cause arrhythmias of the heart.

My coach worked more on baserunning technique than pure speed or stamina. It was smart. We took a lot of extra bases just by knowing the correct angle, including some fat bois who were slow as Christmas.

yea it can kill you and in many cases cause permenant damage including dialysis like you said. its a big deal

I live in rockwall. Down the road from Heath High School right now.
It’s up to 12 kids hospitalized. No real ill intent by the staff, but more of a should have known better.
Timing isn’t great for the coach either. Just had two players leave for IMG a couple days before this happened, so it has the appearance of taking out frustrations on the kids.

There has to be more to the story that we aren’t hearing. How much running/drill work/lifting etc, were they doing before they were punished? Im doing the 10,000 push up and air squat challenge this month. It takes me an hour and some change to get anywhere between a minimum of 350 and my maximum was this morning where I did 500 doing sets of 25. The sets take about 30 seconds each. But I’m in an air conditioned room and I am not starting at a hydration deficit nor am I sweating very much during this time. I am 55 and I slowly got myself ready for the month by building up to those numbers for 3 weeks preceding, so the numbers alone are not ridiculous. Also, I’m only 5’10 and 180lbs so I’m built for body weight exercises. Im also a high school coach and think that what he did should cost him his job. There isn’t an offensive lineman on our team that could do that workout and not be exhausted, if they couldn’t even finish it. 8 players in the hospital with that condition proves he went overboard.

20 sets of 20 in an hour with breaks available? That sounds like a punishing workout but not extreme.
When our coach was pissed at us, if it was in season, we would run extra gassers. If it was off season, he would crank up the heat in our workout shed to like 90 degrees.
Our workouts would always start with 50 pushups and 50 situps and then lift and then run.

Before cancer and when I was in ROTC briefly in my only semester at A&M, I was in the best shape of my life and I think my max pushups in 2 minutes was around 100.
But that's all I did. It was pushups, situps, pullups, and running.
It averages to around 7 pushups a minute. For a lot, that is a pretty brutal pace. It is for me now lol

That’s only one shot of beer every minute. It sounds so easy. I have never once seen someone finish it. Your stomach feels like it’s about to explode around the 45 minute mark

we used to have bets on who could finish, but you couldnt throw up for 1 hour after finishing
i finished 3 times my freshman year and everytime puked within 3 min of last shot and never got to collect. its liek impossible
same with the 20 hershey cakes from BK in an hour....impossible....trust me we tried plenty of times :rotflmao:

Air Assault School self labels as a hard school. It’s too short to be that hard. My son is at Ft. Campbell and I saw it and was asking him about it. That’s his read on it. Yes it’s tough but definitely not the toughest.
