IRS files Tax Lien against the Sewerage & Water Board

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) - “When people don’t pay payroll taxes, that’s a sign they’re in a financial crisis,” says CPA Patrick Lynch.

The Internal Revenue Service put a lien on the Sewerage & Water Board for unpaid taxes. The Federal Tax Lien indicates the Sewerage & Water Board’s failure to pay two types of taxes, one is a 941 tax.

“That shows how much money has been withheld from employee checks for federal income tax, social security tax, medicare tax, so what they take from the employee’s check and then they remit it to the federal government,” says Lynch.

But, according to the tax lien, the Sewerage & Water Board withheld the money from employees, but did not remit the money to the government.
