Based solely on race, whites are under represented as well.. Asians are contuining to outpace all others.. I assume if we broke down the white demographic into general ethnic classes we'd find a high volume of Jewish heritage.. The ultimate Question is whether race and ethnic heritage plays a significant role in determining ones ability to perform certain tasks or is it ones financial class at birth. In today's culture, the mere question would bring indignation from to many circles to allow a rational discussion.

There can be no rational discussion. The pink elephant in the room is genetics and IQ as it correlates to performance/success.

No one wants to mention that there are genetics in play here...everyone wants to believe the fairly tail that all are created equal.

It is not true...

Med school acceptance shouldn't be based on your skin color. I don't give a shite what color you are, I want the best doctor to operate on me. They're literally going to get people killed because they want to push for diversity over performance.

Buddy of mine who just completed residency had a couple of residents when he was CR from a nearby HBCU. FWIW, the school is well thought of as HBCUs go. Said that it was by far the scariest point of his medical education/career to date. He has several stories where he or someone else probably saved the life of a patient due to the ineptness of these guys. Apparently nobody gave a shite, including the residents who sucked.

So, we have reached the point where we can no longer use the objective data we have learned in order to help eradicate actual disease because some crazy person might interpret it as an affront?

Really? This is what we want?
And eliminating the knowledge of who is high risk vs low risk for various disease, how is that going to affect the tide of unnecessary medical testing?

What really concerns me is the lack of black folk going into law enforcement.

Ashley White Stern is a massive dumbass and should be kicked out of medical school for incompetence.

I think that I have posted this before, but the subconscious decision to drop out of school is made in 3rd grade. It is the make or break literacy grade.

Man. That is just a heartbreaking reality. My friend teaches 9th grade in Shreveport at my old high school. Like most public schools there's a hierarchy of curricula, he teaches the lowest one. Some of his kids at this Shreveport high school have never seen Bossier City - literally the next town over. Some didn't know the Red River was that big body of water on the East side of town. How do you teach kids about government/civics when the concept of Europe might as well be a foreign planet?

Trust me, once the med students get into clinical rotations, things like this become very apparent, very fast...whether or not you learned it in a book.

That said, your point is well taken and it is a shame that we are so shallow as a culture that being offended somehow gives you rights to quite literally hide reality.

Note that there is no MCAT score on that graph that has an acceptance rate lower than almost 70% for African American applicants.

If I were an AA parent I would sign my kid up for every biology class right now. That is a hell of a good opportunity.

The chances of a person becoming a doctor who came from little to nothing is pretty close to impossible.

Has it happened? Well sure. It's just very small chances and percentages.

So regardless of skin color, if the parents don't have the money to send the kid to a decent school, it's probably not gonna occur

There are a multitude of reasons as to why this is the case. Some have been mentioned in this thread. I don't agree that a subconsciously decides to dropout of school at 3rd grade though, but I do agree that lack of parents owning the responsibility of a child's education is a big, big problem. They feel that it is the teacher's job to teach their children to read when in fact, it is the parent's job. Work ethic and drive have more to do with an individual's success than anything though. For instance, I had a cousin that dropped out of med school. He came from a middle class family with both parents. He just didn't have the drive and discipline it took to do it. On the other hand a good friend from high school graduated top 5 in his med school class. He came from a single parent home. His mother had six children total. They were poor and his brothers were low level, petty drug dealers. He was special though and everyone knew it. He had a great support system of people doing everything they could to help him succeed and he took advantage of it and did.

it's on the feet of the parents

but then you will be attacked for criticizing the parents, b/c they had the same issues growing up and "don't know better"

so then you attack the grandparents, and it's an endless loop

that's why i try to focus so hard on how we discuss these issues so that the buck can't get passed and both sides have to admit some structural issues with their worldview and rhetoric

You don't believe that some are genetically smarter than others or more physically gifted than others?
