I mean I wouldn’t Insure it either. Better off just using RVs or mobile homes for everything on that island. Including govt buildings

Don't matter when FEMA will come in and pay for everything to get rebuilt anyway. What is the point of having insurance?

As of now, the place still looks like hell. They need to prioritize cleaning the destroyed crap up.

I very much like Grand Isle, so I hope by next summer it's in much better shape.

When were you last there? It doesnt look like hell.....yes there is a lot of work left to be done but compared to a year ago it looks a lot better. Most places are being renovated or torn down....it's hard to find help and get shite done. I was there for the 4th and was pleasantly surprised how clean the roads and beach were. All the marinas were open, the grocery stores and restaurants were open, shrimp dock was open....they only thing I was disappointed in was Ciscos Back Bar wasnt open yet,but they were renovating and going to be opening soon

I was there late June and there were still a lot of debris and camps that hadn’t look like they had been touched yet.
Didn’t notice much of the new construction that you mentioned, but yes it was nice to see most of the businesses back and open.

Agree about the labor problem. I know people that live up Hwy 1 a ways and are still having trouble getting people to come do work. Sucks to hear they are still dealing with that after fighting for so long with insurance companies.

Didnt their new building make it through fine?

Structurally, Multiplex did well, but they did have some leaks in the roof and had to do some replacements to drywall and ceilings, and fix portions of the roof.

when the price of insurance cost 20% of the cost of total out of pocket replacement, its simple math to determine insurance isnt worth it at those prices. if they make it 5 years without serious damage, they saved enough to completely rebuild it new again when and if it ever gets destroyed or damaged

then add to that, fema pays 60% of replacement cost to the uninsured of any disaster damage

Friend was paying $12k a year on a $220,000 property. Minimal Ida damage, but company just dropped them. Citizens wanted $18k per year. They are going to self insure.
