What does it cost to insure a camp down there these days?

Depends on where the camp/house is located, what side of the Island, what side of LA 1 and the elevation.

when the price of insurance cost 20% of the cost of total out of pocket replacement, its simple math to determine insurance isnt worth it at those prices. if they make it 5 years without serious damage, they saved enough to completely rebuild it new again when and if it ever gets destroyed or damaged

We’re in Louisiana.

A. They/We will get another storm in the next five years

B. Anyone really thinks that they’re saving the money they’re not paying into insurance? People are getting raises and the city is buying new equipment

Friend was paying $12k a year on a $220,000 property. Minimal Ida damage, but company just dropped them. Citizens wanted $18k per year. They are going to self insure.

Dude, lots are going for $220k...he must have a trailer that is not raised......he could pay $18k and raise his trailer and get insured for way less than that

It just might be time to consider just giving up on Grand Isle ! How many more millions of $ can be basically wasted ? What does the Parish pay for all the services ? What does the State pay for hurricane damage after each storm ? What does FEMA pay after each storm ? And for WHAT....basically a fishing village with a few hundred permanent residents, it's time risk-management assessment = cut your losses !!

Grand Isle is a cash cow for Jefferson Parish and the State of Louisiana....not to mention the cash cow that is Elmers Island and Port Fourchon for the City of of New Orleans.....

They only insure the structure for mobile homes.... not the property. Mobile homes down there are not costing $220k
