Got a ticket today at the corner of Ferndale and Perkins for an expired sticker from January.

How much is that costing you?

Louisiana law mandates regular car inspections to test the vehicle's brakes, speedometer, odometer, mirrors, seatbelts and parking brakes.

They inspect and give you a sticker. So they’re saying up to 1 year, your car is safe to be on the road. But during that year, something could go wrong with your car rendering the inspection useless. It’s a bs inspection that really doesn’t do anything.

Safety stickers have little to do with safety.

It's about money.

Can't recall the last time any of these were "inspected". Hand out for the $$, sign here and see ya next year.

I was surprised for my last inspection. They actually drove my vehicle once around the building to test all of that stuff. First time in my life I've had to get out of my vehicle.

The older I get, the less time I have to waste money on things like inspection stickers.

When I get mine done, they just check lights, blinkers and horn but it still takes 20 minutes total(paperwork, scraping old sticker, putting new one on). I can't imagine how long it takes to do a complete inspection.

Pretty sure they’re talking about (for example) pulling someone over for a burnt out tail light bulb.

Government loves to spend our money and tax us. They'll probably rescind them, then bring them back at a higher cost. There are enough existing laws that can be enforced to ensure roadworthy and safe vehicles.

I said I needed a new brake tag in Texas and the station attendant said, “Do whut?”

There’s the difference between LA and TX right there.

It’s raining. Do whut?
One taco please. Do whut?
Nice to meet you. Do whut?
So annoying.

Louisiana, inspection stickers can cost up to $25, and they're replaced at least once a year

They have always been able to do this. The "sir, you have a broken tail light. Oh, I smell marijuana" thing is old as the hills.

Ha - I was in traffic on Tiger Bend Road here in Baton Rouge about 3 weeks ago. Traffic was stopped both ways. I looked over and there was an EBR sheriff’s car with an inspection sticker that had been expired for over 6 months !

The bill doesn't entirely eliminate inspections, in the capital area cars will still have to undergo emissions tests, as mandated by the Clean Air Act.

So now cops will have to determine first what parish you live in and then see if got an emissions test?

And echoing how much of a joke these inspections are. There was a guy in Mandeville who would get in my car, back it up 30 feet, drive forward and stop to "test the brakes". I was sitting there thinking "I clearly didn't run into your building and you saw me stop coming in but yeah test away"
