I can't really figure out what's going on with me but if I have another night where I get 2-4 hours of sleep, I'm gonna lose it. For reasons I cannot explain, I wake up around 2:30, 3 am every single night and then I lie there thinking about everything imaginable. Then I start to feel some general anxiety because of fear of no sleep, and then it's just off to the races. I'm wide awake and sleep is just something I'm going to have to do without.

Anybody here ever experience long periods of insomnia? If so what did you do about it? I'm worried about prescription sleep aids because you always hear about these nightmare scenarios, but honestly at this point I feel like the pros would outweigh any cons. I know I may wake up in the back yard at 4am cutting the grass or something but if it gets me 8 hours of sleep, I'm game..

What would the OT do?

I ended my OP draft with an "also, in b4 AIDS, 350, you have the ghey, etc..." but deleted it because I wanted to just see how fast it took someone. You did not disappoint

Either sleep it off; or just go on a bender until you pass out, then sleep it off.

Edit: The closest I ever came to going through what you appear to be dealing was stressing over some high anxiety upcoming meetings. Once I dealt with the issue at hand, I was able to get back to my normal sleeping schedule.

Get some exercise and cut out alcohol if you haven't. I get in the same rut at times and staying off the sauce really helps.

You pretty much described the last 3-4 years of my sleep life.

6 hours of sleep is a luxury.

You may have fatal insomnia go to the doctor man. It will drive you crazy and you'll die a horrible death and there isn't a cure. Or maybe you just have super aids I dunno

Great advice. I'd also recommend taking ZMA, GABA and melatonin supplements.

Scruffy has never slept very well. Unisom has helped on those occasions.

The unisom with doxylamine works well for Scruffy.

Alcohol is the biggest sleep disrupter.

Regardless, if you’re awake for more than 30 minutes, get up and read a physical book for a while. Something (other than the internet/social media) to divert your attention from the mind chaos.

I would try some over the counter sleep aids first. Maybe some Melatonin or Magnesium Glycinate.

Have you recently had some big changes in your life? Having increased stress financially, at work, at home? Could be some anxiety that's reached a level that it's starting to disrupt your sleep. What's your routine before going to bed look like? Has anything changed there?

I'd avoid alcohol. You're not going to get good sleep with it and while it'll get you there, it in itself can cause further sleep issues.

Get one of those plastic sweat suits from Walmarts or go to a gym with sauna. Sweat your butt off, quit drinking alcohol, take melatonin, drink water, exercise.

Need a lot more info than not being able to sleep

On any meds?
Exercise?
What is diet like? What times do you eat throughout the day?
What fluids do you drink?

6 hours is a pipe dream. 4-5 is a typical night for me. I hate it but have just kind of accepted that's how it is for me.
