Insomnia help...

Over that last year (over 60) I've started developing insomnia as my mind won't shut down and I toss and turn. The OTC remedies aren't helping. Sipping on an 8% hard ice works as good as anything.
Any tips?

Pop a couple of these the first time you wake up…
After about 15 minutes, countdown from 788.
Also definitely worth a try is Clif High’s Pure Sleep

Lol
After countless sleep studies, my body functions best on a 22 hours up and 6 asleep schedule.
But since the world has its own schedule, I'm a 19-21 hour awake and 3-4 hour asleep guy.
And have been so since age 11...
What's odd, every male in my family has the same issue. The old men nap a hour a day, the young men struggle through it.

You have to wear your body out during the day. I'm not talking making yourself work too hard and harming your body, I'm talking exercise. Walk walk walk, or jog/run, lift moderate weights and sweat. Also, wear out your brain. Do crosswords, soduku etc. If you sit a lot you won't sleep well. If you move your body and exercise your mind, it wears your body out. No caffeine after 12pm and no food after 6pm (unless its a light snack like yogurt to keep your blood sugar normal) so you don't wake up hungry. Get sun in your eyes during the day. But most importantly, MOVE YOUR BODY. Trust me.

Ask Dr. for Temezpam prescritpion. Works great. I used to take ambien which is fantastic but it started making me extremely nauseous the next day.

Yes to this. And Vitamin D. Get sunlight: walk, work outside, play pickleball, ride a bike. Also: drink less alcohol. You're going to wake up to pee if you do. As we age the body takes longer to process it. So if you do wake up, try to go back to sleep. The couple extra hours of sleep will help.

I try to think of something relaxing to get my brain to relax, like playing a round of golf or hiking.

Let me sleep on this and get back to you.

Total insomniac tonight. After a 2 pm doctor appointment I have to drive halfway to Miami. Went to bed before 10 pm. It’s now past 5 am and I’ve had about 30 minutes of sleep so far. That drive is going to suck.
ETA: I even took Melatonin and Nyquil.

I've tried every pill, gummie and liquor. Nothing helped and most made it worse or messed with my psyche.
Here's my two cents.
You'll have to try a bunch of things to see what works for you. Some things that have helped me are:
Exercise.
Meditation.
Lights off at midnight.
No screen time after 10pm.
Read a book at night.
Get on a good schedule.
Think differently about insomnia. You may not need the sleep. If you wake up at 4am and know you aren't going back to sleep, do something. Pay your bills. Get a cup of coffee. Read the news.
That's all I got. Good luck.
