Insomnia and Treatment Options

I know we all get it from time to time, but over the course of the last 6 weeks or so, I’ve consistently gotten between 3.5-4 hours of sleep a night. The weekends I get about 5 hours. I’ve tried melatonin, magnesium glycinate, lavender, sleep gummies, glass of milk, no screens an hour before bed… you name it. I made an appointment with a sleep doctor at Baton Rouge Clinic but it’s months away. I’ve had bloodwork done recently and labs are perfect. I don’t really snore so sleep apnea isn’t the culprit. I have recently got back in the gym thinking that would solve it but no dice. And it’s not really going to sleep that’s the problem. It’s staying asleep.
Have any of you tried CBT-I? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia? That’s ChatGPT’s buzzword. As well as various prescriptions.
It is really really sucking lately. Any of you gotten stuck in these weird patterns? If so how do you get out of them?

I - 100% - don't want to downplay it, particularly if this is a relatively new change for you, but it could be a helluva lot worse.

Yeah, AI is telling me this as well. I have not.

Before this year's cycle of insomnia, I would have said my problem is inconsistent enough that I could not say this. However, it is true for me, generally, now. I have little to no difficulty in getting to sleep most nights. Maybe 2 or 3 this entire year were problematic. However, the "staying asleep" is the big deal.
I'm averaging about 5ish over the past 90 days. But that's a half dozen or more 8+ mixed in with some 2.5 and 3s. So, all over the place. I would almost take and plan around 6 most nights with a few 4.5s if that was the deal. But it isn't.
I've tried literally everything but powerful sleep medicine and the CBT-I that AI raves about.

Do you wake up sweating?
I know I was having issues with waking up around 3-330 every morning while sweating and sometimes in a panic. My cortisol levels were off.

What helped me was a cocktail of Phosphatidylserine, L-the nine, and glycine. Relatively cheap supplements.
I was waking up every morning at about 3:00 and getting about 20 minutes of deep sleep. Since I started this cycle, I’m getting about one to one and a half hours of deep sleep almost regardless of how long I sleep. The cycle above does not necessarily increase the amount of sleep that I have been getting, but it does allow me to go into the more important deep sleep for longer.

Get a sleep study done.

As someone that has trouble with this, being on a regular sleep schedule is what helps me. In bed by 10 and up by 4:30.

Alcohol does this

Before Bed:
take magnesium
Avoid screens for a bit
Get a vibrating plate and stand on that for 15 minutes before bed
take a shower
stretch
Get in bed
You're welcome

Sounds like you’re stressed out. Then you can’t sleep and that stresses you more. I think you need to fix or manage what’s causing you the excess stress/cortisol and sleep will come.

4-7-8 breathing helps me with insomnia some nights. It's not a silver bullet, but it's helped after I tried everything else that you talked about.

You sound just like me.
Trazodone has helped me get back on track. Take it for 30 days. When I start falling off again, I’ll take one here and there.

You’re taking the wrong kind of gummies. Obviously it’s not an option for everyone but the right dosage of THC can put you to sleep, keep you asleep and wake up feeling unhindered/refreshed.

Vince McMahon is famous for saying "sleep is overrated".
A lot of very successful people get by with only a few hours of sleep each day.
For the last 20 years of my working career, I was sleeping about 5 hours per night. I would get up at 3 am and get a lot done.
Now that I'm retired, I sleep about 8 hours. Sometimes I feel very sluggish after sleeping that long.

What’s your height and weight and what does “just got back in the gym” mean?

Maybe more sex?
It usually puts me to sleep.
