Great reason why not to vote for Strain. Thanks for the heads up.

Is he related to that pedo police chief from St. Tammany Parish?

When y’all vote for STG, be sure to vote Mike Strain OUT as AG commissioner.

He’s single handedly thwarting progress on the fledgling cannabis industry

Louisiana’s climate is near perfect to grow and develop that industry

Dumb. He’s done a great job in that office.

Considering he isn’t corrupt as hell like Bob Odom was, I figure we could and will do far worse with the next one.

This and the gubernatorial have driven early voting numbers in EBR over double 2015s numbers from 9,155 in 2015 to over 22,000 this cycle.

Should Sloth be getting nervous with such high turnout?

I doubt they are his supporters turning out early. They usually get busses to the polls on Election Day.

Broome, COA, and Gary should also take a bow. They've helped St George more than anything. This city was no where near perfect, but Kip kept most people thinking of it as one city - even if you didn't like some of his ideas. These folks have shaken some normally civic minded Democrats into fearing for the future.

If this thing passes, the families who write the checks underwriting most major foundations, the people who sit on community boards, and those having considerable stakes within BR proper better do something quick. Broome should lose her job, because St George is really a vote of no confidence in Baton Rouge governance. The parish needs a unifying Mayor President with good backing.

When St. George passes will Mayor Broome and Chief Paul hold a press conference to ask for “peaceful demonstration?”

Kip should consider a new run.

Provided he stops trying to fund “Kippyland” at every opportunity, he is a realistic option to toss Broome.

thank you
cannabis cultivation brings money, research, jobs, and is environmentally sound.
this should be the number one directive of the Ag department

one of the largest Ag schools in the world is right there

Kip was in opposition of this as much as anyone. If there is incorporation, it will come from support of people who supported this from day one.

I'm not suggesting Kip supported St George. I'm saying that the attitudes in town have moved very far in three short years. Feelings of goodwill or civic mindedness are declining. St George will still be aided by a strong Baton Rouge. Having the city go to shite serves no one but Texas.

When Kip was mayor, the new city idea was almost solely predicated on getting a new school district. Under Broome, St George was not only to offer a new school district,, but also able to basically become a total and complete option against Baton Rouge and city hall altogether.

A lot of this shite is happening precisely because SWB is catering to her voters (NBR) at the expense of the rest of the parish then calling everyone racist who points out the problem.

But our consolidated model of government really doesn’t lend itself to much separation. We’re still going to be on the hook for the worst of the shitty taxes via parish-wife taxes.

I believe after SG, we'll band with Central, Baker and Zachary to essentially push deconsolidation of BR Mayor and EBR Parish President.

At this point, giving him KipLand to get rid of Broome seems like the cheaper and less painful choice. I mean, he's still anti-SG, but he's not that garbage in the mayor's office.

I don't live in the area and have only slightly followed this. Is the root of the problem the stupid city-parish consolidated government?

The root of this problem is a federal desegregation case from the 50's and a judge from the 80's. He decided that forced bussing was the answer and single-handedly destroyed the public schools in EBR parish. The ripple effects are still being felt today and have resulted in the St. George movement.

In theory, I've long thought the city-parish government gave everyone a seat at the table and reduced waste by recognizing the parish as the economic zone of BR. With migration to Ascension and Livingston, that dynamic has changed a bit, but I still think we're better off than having duplicate services and government.

What hurt BR was not just desegregation, but three terms of McHugh who basically did very little but watch quality of life metrics go down as people left the parish. Punted on traffic, not strategic thinking. He was kind of an antidote, though, to the Screen years. The interstate also screwed this city up, altering the orientation of where key points in town would lie.

Little known fact. During planning stages, I-12 was considered for a route north of BR similar to how it passed north of New Orleans. We could have had the loop from the start, and kept heavy commercial or true interstate traffic out of town. Oh well.
