Engineers working on the environmental assessment phase of a proposed widening of 3.5 miles of Interstate 10 through the heart of Baton Rouge are months behind schedule, due to the challenges of trying to plan the project around several residential neighborhoods, historic structures and a thriving merchants district.

A final draft of the assessment was originally supposed to be presented at a public hearing in December. But the date was pushed back to February because state transportation officials said at the time the report wasn’t quite ready.

Now, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development spokesman Rodney Mallett says it will probably be late spring or early summer before the final draft of the assessment is ready to present to the public for a final hearing

How do I get a gig like this? Pay me to tell you it is not ready. I think this is how a doctor who refers 100 percent of patients must feel.

In all fairness dealing with all the moving parts and people of going right through those areas these guys have their work cut out for them. At least we are beginning the process.

Sounds like we need to commission a study on how to make these studies be studied better.

These guys seem to all work like attorneys. Draw out billable hours by any means necessary. It's so expected that the word delay and money to fund it seem like just business as usual. Crazy.

I dont feel as strongly as you.
But for real, they need to just buy those businesses and move on.

I really don’t understand why they can’t get this done. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It could’ve been halfway completed by now if everyone would stfu and just let it be done.
The capital city in Louisiana and they can’t even have an interstate to get through without standstill traffic everyday. Can somebody explain why it’s not being constructed? Legit response

If they are at the drawing/planning stage, it has nothing to do with the property owners
You cant get their input until you have a plan/design.
The excuse is all bull shite

Is caring about historic structures a thing now?

It’s the businesses under the interstate & the few hood neighborhoods.
The businesses have fought for years to prevent this from happening. The neighborhoods, I’m not sure. If I lived in one of those shithole homes, I’d take the money in a heartbeat.

Glad y’all voted to approve the movEBR tax. Looks like it’s going to good use so far.

They have to divvy up the loot, and there’s probably a few months hold time to see if any state or local keaders who missed out on the first offer step up for their vig.
