I'd still pick ordering something at 3pm and having it sitting at my door the next day over traveling to a brick and mortar.
Definitely. I've never seen a Best Buy in any city that wasn't located in the biggest pain-in-the-arse shopping center in town.
Plus, with any purchase over $30, I have to read a dozen reviews first.

Yes, because Mississippi's problems are directly related to its level of taxation and not in any way demographics.

The shite right here. Usually the same prices as Amazon as well.

When you consider how much we spend on amazon monthly, it's a noticeable difference for us.
Posted on 12/20/16 at 8:50 am to CaptainsWafer
But you were already supposed to be reporting your amazon purchases on your taxes anyways. So you weren't really saving any money.
Unless you didn't report it and have been committing tax fraud all this time?
Which is likely what everyone has been doing I do realize
I just find it funny how people in LA are acting like this is an end of the world scenario and freaking out. When it's been the standard for majority of the country(29 states and D.C. would be considered a majority).

It's not new revenue. It's revenue that should have always happened, but it's become painfully obvious placing the taxation point on the consumer doesn't work.
Posted on 12/20/16 at 8:56 am to lsunurse
that doesn't make it right. You do realize in my parish (Calcasieu) we have the highest sales tax in the nation right?
Look bottom line is in LA the government has more than enough money that they have stolen from its citizens and blown. frick them. They need to cut before they start collecting more taxes.
Sorry but having a state government the size of florida and more 4 year universities than florida makes zero sense. Sorry but I don't want my taxes going to a school like SUNO with its 5% graduation rate.

So, it's right to completely shaft the local business people that have brick and mortar in the state?
Posted on 12/20/16 at 8:57 am to lsu777
Then get angry at the state of LA and NOT at Amazon. Like someone else said...it's not Amazon enforcing this.

-.-
Girl you don't know how I do my taxes.

just tried to buy a Sous Vide cooker on Ebay. Seller was Best Buy and sales tax was added to the purchase. Went to New Egg and got the same item for same price sans sales tax.

Do they have basically free shipping that arrives in two days? Would that just be a wash between shipping vs sales tax?
Posted on 12/20/16 at 9:07 am to lsu777
While I agree the state doesn't have nearly the revenue problem they act like they have, not collecting sales tax is an unfair competitive advantage that Amazon had over local businesses.
When a local business is 10% higher on price and you tack on 8.5% for sales tax, you're paying 19.35% more than you would at Amazon. That discourages spending locally even more than prices alone do. This change is fair, even if the sales tax itself is absurdly high.

Nice. Just got mine in Friday. Paid $149 on Amazon last week, then saw it on sale for $129 Saturday, so I contacted Amazon and they credited the difference. I've got the rest of the equipment coming in today and I'm picking up a prime rib roast for Christmas.

I'm glad they are charging taxes now.
I am not happy any government charges us taxes. However, if local companies have to collect them then online companies should have to. It should be a level playing field.
So, I am glad Amazon will have to collect them. Let's see if they really are better than local companies.
