The shot to deaden the nerve hurts like a sumbitch as well.
My dad was a doctor and cut mine out with no numbing shot or anesthesia. It was after office hours and he told me, "Don't worry, no one's here to hear you scream."

Clean the area, then use the clipper to make a vertical cut a deep as you can stand, then use some pliers to pull out the side that was digging in.
This. Also, it is very important to douse the instruments and the affected toe area before and after with 90% isopropyl alcohol: it will both kill bacteria and act as a topical anesthetic.
Or just go to the Podiatrist.

dont cut your toenails that have a tendency to get in-grown down to the edges. doctor recommended cutting the nails on the bid toe nearly flat (do not cut the ends down to the nail bed)

Dr. can cut it out and then treat the nail bed with a chemical that prevents it from growing back.
Had this done in 1987 and not had a problem since.

Had problems with them as a teenager. Normal surgery didn’t help. Eventually had a laser procedure where they burned the roots on each side of the nail to ensure they only grew straight up.

Big toe on my left foot got me in my feelings. Anyone have any treatment ideas? I’m about ready to cut this thing off!
There are doctors for this, but be prepared to watch it unfold.

Buy a box of alcohol wipes. The kind that come in the little square packages that the nurse rips open to wipe the area where you get a shot. Cut a small piece from the same. Take a thin pair of tweezers and insert the alcohol wipe under the corner of the toenail. Leave it in for a few days. It will sanitize the skin and will cause the nail to (1) raise and stop burying into the skin, and (2) will eventually cause the nail to grow out properly.

Quit being a bitch, get in the tub and dig the damn thing out.

ive had 4 cut out. All were well worth it. In 10th grade I had an infected one on my left foot. Basketball practice a dude stepped on it and it was the worst pain ive ever experienced, bar none. Excruciating, nauseating, you name it.

I’ve done this with Neosporin and it settled it down for a while. Change it daily though.

Suffered with one for years. Eventually went to a podiatrist's office and got that part of the nail bed killed. Looks and feels fine now.

Then you've lived a very privileged life. It's really not that bad. Some of you are just a bunch of wimps.

I kept getting them and had a couple that got infected as a teen. Went in to get it dealt with. They numbed it up and cut it way back and put some sort of acid on the nail bed to keep the nail from growing anymore. All good.
That is until I woke up from a nap afterwards and the numbing had worn off. Holy shite man. My big toe felt as big as my head and it felt like it was getting bigger with each heartbeat that felt like being hit with a hammer on each beat too.. Never felt pain like that before.
But, since then, no ingrown toenails for me. It was worth it.

Both of my big toes were continually ingrown for years. Finally made one of the best decisions in my life and had them remove. Pain free after the procedures.
An ingrown toe nail can be permanently corrected with a procedure called a chemical matrixectomy.

Cut the v in the center of that toe nail
Soak in Epson salt
Go to CVS and get the ingrown toenail kit.

The shot fricking hurts. There are a ton of nerve endings in your toes plus the added pressure from the infection makes the area extra sensitive to pain. That needle freaking hurts

The treatment consisted of sticking a long needle in both toes 6 times to deaden them, which hurt like hell

Jesus! What kind of sadistic doc did you see? I had two quick shots on my toe (not in the nail bed). It was nothing.
Lol, my primary care doctor when I was in high school. Yeah, all those shots sucked.

best ingrown nail tool ever

If it's not too far gone, you can roll up a tiny piece of cotton and push it under that corner of the nail to pull it up.
