In British Airborne school, trainees must pass a training evolution called milling

quote:
A square milling ring is formed by the seated trainee group, while an officer and two non-commissioned officers observe as judges from a raised platform.[1] Trainees are paired by weight and issued with head-guards, gumshields and 18oz boxing gloves.[1]
Each pair are told to punch each other’s faces as furiously as possible for one minute: "You must aim to dominate your opponent with straight punches to the head."[1]
Unlike boxing, it is forbidden: to pause in attacking the opponent; to aim at any part of the opponent other than the head; or to evade or block the opponent’s punches. The guidance notes state: "No ducking, parrying or other boxing defence moves are allowed."[1] The clock is paused if a trainee is knocked down or if his nose is broken; any blood is wiped away by staff and the bout resumes.[1]
AFAIK there are no Sonics in the UK, but this is the next best thing.

That looks like a lot of fun (not now that I am fat and out of shape).
Skins took the brunt of that beating.

I keep reading the subject of posts on the OT wrong. Guess I'm getting old.
I read your whole post thinking the subject line was, "In British Airline school, trainees must pass a training evolution (evaluation?) called milling"
Was thinking U.S. airlines should do the same.

95% or more of the OT posters would not be able to toss their fists more than 30 times before falling to exhaustion.
Seriously though, the punchers who keep their head up are wallowing those that drop their heads and just flail hoping not to get tagged.
In summary, kind of fun to watch!

My buddy is a former USAF Raven (special security detachment)
Their final exam was essentially fighting your way out of 3 guys jumping you. No gloves, no helmets, just 3 instructors beating the shite out of you.

Naturally, skin #2 has a tramp stamp and got his arse whipped.

We did this back in the day in a selection course I attended. They paired me up with this little Puerto Rican and I thought "I am going to whip this dudes arse". That kid beat the ever living shite out of me and seriously bruised or cracked three of my ribs.
Later that night in the bar he really hurt me though. While trying to be nice he said "hey, you really hit me good that one time." We went four rounds.
After some beers he admitted that he fought Golden Gloves as a Junior middleweight and won a medal on the island. It didn't take away the hurt though.

Certain US Military specialties go through combatives that have some real furious activity to them. Not combatives 1 but the higher level stuff few people get through.

No, "evolution" is correct in this context.
