I don't know what those frickers were thinking back in the day, the way they went to war. Everyone lined up, face to face, going at it.. It's cool an all people were willing to die, but every person that was killed was one less resource, so you would think they would have had a better plan for attacking.

If I was a ruler of a small empire. I would have made allies with as many empires as I could have, without it being obvious I was playing everyone.. Then I would have started back-dooring the frick out of other smaller empires, hopefully in time to match up with the big boys.. Then I would have had a terrorist approach, knocking out as much of the bigger empires as I could, before fighting a "traditional war".. With that said, I am sure survival rate was probably higher among those with heavy cavalry, but you could probably accomplish more with light.

You would've been assassinated as soon as you came to power.

The ones who claimed divine right were addressing assassination and having opinions.

Light cavalry with some air support wins every time.

Casualties and especially deaths would've pretty low generally. You. If gt have your massacre that killed tens of thousands once in awhile but for the most part, most deaths came to those who broke and ran first.

That simply would. It work as you know.

There was plenty of guerrilla fighting and that's where most deaths in wars occurred

I’m sure light has its place. But almost always it’s heavy.

The light horse archers of the Eurasian steppe were pretty tough to beat.

He would have been killed at birth. An Oracle would have said “he will one day be the worst poster on Tigerdroppings” and they would have crushed his skull in the cradle.

Nathan Bedford Forrest

Be there first with the most

LINK

He went straight to the high ground. He could tell where the battle would move.

You wouldn't last very long when you run out of ammo. And guns like that eat through a case of ammo faster than a Russian drinks a case of vodka.

Heavy Cavalry was for small exertion in a large engagement. It was to punch a hole in a line and let infantry roll in and force an opening.

Light cavalry was for harassment, scouting, and raids. You couldn't send them against a line with the same results.

You needed both for exploiting terrain and tactics.

I'm pretty sure Ghengis Khan has already answered this question for you. The light, highly manuverable, Mongolian calvary decimated the heavy cavalry of Russia and Eastern Europe on EVERY occasion they met.
