Not going to dig deep on this one but to be technical I am thinking it was the source of the problem. Not the inhabitants but the whole capturing your brethren and selling them off to white folk and brown folk.
But yes we should work on our race relations here though.

I worked in central and west Africa for about 6 months and they hate black Americans a lot more than white Americans.

No, it's a feeble attempt to invalidate an idea you disagree with.
It's the same argument as "eat your food, there's starving kids in Africa". So? That doesn't change the context of the reality we live in.
