earned-income tax credit

Should eliminated it is nothing more than a tax on working people paid to worthless trash that does nothing but lay on their couch, drink malt liquor and breed.

Most of the people filing now are Hillary voters anyway

Who is filing before they even get their W-2 or 1099? We haven't even finished the first week of the year.

Federal courts are shutting down soon too.

This year is a great time if you cheated on your taxes two years ago.

Why does this have to be a bipartisan issue? It's just a fact. With the government shut down, you won't be getting your tax return in a timely manner.

I don't use tax returns as a bonus or savings system so this doesn't effect me.

Y'all realize most of these people that are filing early are getting back more than they paid in

I am guessing you don't know how any of this works when you didn't understand the meaning of the post you responded to...

Despite witholding at the higher single rate, we end up owing every year, so I don't really care if the IRS shuts down. I wish the would be abolished in favor of a better system.

You should fire your current accountant or hire one. That's basically impossible without substantial other income sources.

I file in October so this doesn’t affect me. I usually owe anyway.

You are the accountant, explain that scenario.

The OP works at an H&R Block walk in place so I’m sure he’s pretty busy with a lot of early filer’s

For many Americans, the tax refund is the single largest financial event of the year, and the people who tend to file early in the season are taxpayers who count on large refunds to pay down debt, catch up on bills or make major purchases. Those are disproportionately low-income households that benefit from the earned-income tax credit and other provisions that give them no income-tax liability or a net benefit from the income-tax system.

i'm not seeing the problem here
if necessary those should be the last transactions to make, every year

This is exactly why I never have my taxes setup for a big refund. I'd prefer to be even or owe some.

Most of the people this article is talking about are probably claiming the EIC and getting back more than they paid, if they paid anything at all.

Can I assess late fees on non-payment?

A class action lawsuit would be a great idea to get even more of our money back. Would take a very long time to settle though i think.
