Read the book of Job, but don't give up before you get to chapter 37 or so.

These valleys in life can make you do one of two things:

1) Look to God for peace and make you a stronger person. There's a lot of peace in knowing He's in control and will make it right in the end.

2) focus on self and fall farther into depression.

Get lots of exercise. Gets the endorphins going and helps fight depression, which is understandable with all the cards you've been dealt. I'm always amazed at how much exercise helps my mental health.

Plus you're newly single so having a hot new bod will bring in the ladies.

Man I can’t blame you at all. I would suggest lots and lots of exercise. Do not remain idle. That’s when your mind goes to shite. It’ll take a long time, but there is a positive ending

You're not alone.

This year has taken a far worse toll on people emotionally than anyone in power or in media wants to say.

Don't be afraid to reach out to whomever can help.

I wish that I could do more for ya...but black labs always made me feel better.

I'd read the book of Job, specifically

Even more specifically, read Chapter 38 where God speaks to Job for the first time. I'm not a heavy bible reader/thumper, but over time that chapter has become my go-to. It brings a tear to my eye almost every time I read it. If you believe in God or some type of "creator" it is incredibly humbling and reminds us all of our place in the world.

Might I also suggest a small ring of prayer beads (I used the 25-count) and the Jesus Prayer. Say it once for each bead and let yourself get into a meditative state. It only takes 5-10 minutes, but I've found it helpful in the most troubled times of my life.

Finally, you mentioned your kids, and that is the main reason you need to man-up and power through as others have said. (Even more specifically, see Job 38:3 "Gird up now thy loins like a man...")

Someone mentioned meds - that decision of course is ultimately up to you, but don't go there unless you REALLY need to.

Best of luck to you.

Life is suffering. You can’t escape it. At some point, life will come to humble you and lay waste to your sense of reality. Right now, focus on the things you can control, try to be relentlessly positive and grateful in your suffering. Remember you can only control your life, there actually are malevolent forces in your life now, and your job is to navigate through it with a sense of meaning.

I’ve had a bad year too. My buddy has had a worse year. All you can do is try to master your emotions, and keep the self pity and despair from creeping in. However you express your spiritually will help, as can your kids, your animals, long walks, working out, yard work , fishing etc. You have to figure out what makes you feel like your old self and do that until the storm passes. Great days ahead for you, it’s just hard to see now.

Id go as far as to say, go to Church even if you dont believe.

Regardless of your faith, the Church has a code.

Mans gotta live by a code. Then there’s the community that comes with it

Father Mark Beard

He's the best I've heard.
his YouTube channel they put up for COVID. His homilies after the gospels are fantastic. I don't miss them since I've found him

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. .

God gave us life. His didn't promise it would be easy. That said he made us to be winners.

You'll win. When your going through hell, keep on moving.

Just think about how bad it would frick up your 12 yr old daughter to not have her father around going into whats already going to be the most confusing years of her life. And not even you just not being there, but the trauma of her knowing her dad killed himself.

Don't do that to your daughter, man

Don’t be afraid to get temporary professional help if you need to. This also goes for your kids. Talking it out in a safe environment can help a lot. Life can be rough at times and we men have a tendency to isolate ourselves. Don’t hole up.

Sounds like a terrible year man. This world can be cruel. Counseling/therapy could be good. So could enjoying a new hobby.
But nothing replaces Psalm 23. Say it over and over.

Imagine all of this on top of having to be an Auburn fan.

You are lucky to be blessed with LSU. Rick Astley is never gonna give you up. You can do this.

You already have it figured out. One foot in front of the other will get you to a place tomorrow that you aren’t today. You can walk slow or fast. You can cry or smile while you are moving, but keep moving. Sunrises are always the same, but look different from where you choose to see them.

Once I finally came to the realization that life is a losing battle, I have chosen to just enjoy the enjoyable things and not really stress the negative. Stress will end your battle with life more hastily. You've gotten this far, you'll make it further. Keep your head up!
