My daughter wanted to walk her cat so I bought a harness for it. That cat tore my arse up when I was trying to get it off

I have a backpack and a pet tent in the backyard for my cat but he doesn't seem to care much about going outside.
Harnesses and leashes for cats are pretty common around here because it's too dangerous for them to be outside(traffic and larger predators).

I saw someone walking a cat on a leash a couple weeks back. Was the first time I'd ever seen that, and it did seem odd.

My grandfather had a cat that was just like a dog. He would come when you called him and followed my grandpa around everywhere and would ride in the car with him. Everyday at 5:00 pm when my grandpa got off work the cat would walk down to the end of the street and wait for his car to pull up and when it did my grandpa would roll down the window and the cat would jump in and ride home with him. He even taught the cat to use the toilet instead of a litter box. Cat would just squat over the bowl, drop a deuce and then try to bury it by scratching the toilet seat.

I kind of walk with my cat, but she wants to climb every damn tree and fight all the dogs, so I just don't do that anymore.

Saw a guy walking a ferret on a leash a couple months back. Wild times.

I saw someone with a cat backpack at the beach last summer. I thought it was kinda cool. Look just like this one...

They come in handy. I went with mesh instead of the bubble because I wanted one that would double as a pet carrier.
I usually put him in the backpack when I take the dog for a walk. It's a good way to get them used to getting in a carrier without tipping them off when it's going to be a vet trip.

Not mine. He's a regular ginger idiot kitty (and I love that about him).
He found his way into my life when he was about 2yrs old - raised as an indoor/outdoor cat his whole life. For the first 3 years after he became mine - He continued that same lifestyle.
About 6 months ago - My landlord decided she was going to sell the house I was renting... and I moved into an apartment. It was closer to downtown and my work and had all the amenities I was looking for... except for a quiet, private fenced-in back yard. I live on the 2nd floor and have a large balcony which my cat enjoys... but he still has that urge to wander and explore.
It's taken me a few months, but I now have him to the point I can walk him on a leash around my apartments. Granted - I have to do it late at night when it's quiet (the leash doesn't bother him - but the unfamiliar environment does).
Anywho - Here's a short, shabby-quality clip of me taking him for a stroll last week. Was focused on him - not video quality... So apologies.

One of my neighbors accidentally jettisoned a cereal box on the walkway as they carried groceries in... so Louie had to check it out.

I walk mine all the time. She likes the nighttime better.

Tried a leash for one of ours at beginning of Covid.
Houdini was out of that thing in less than 5 seconds.

I tried and my cat hated it. As soon as I set him on the ground he crouched down like he was gonna pounce but refused to move. We decided that walking the cat was probably a bad idea.

Yes, definitely. I had an employee that worked for me a couple years back that treated her cat like a child. And she would walk it as well. Also have seen it at several Mardi Gras parades in the last year or two as well. And another guy I know, I've seen him post pics and vids on FB of him walking his cat. It's definitely becoming more and more "normal."
And even is being normalized in commercials. This commercial always bugged me: Chewy. The entire set up makes you think there is a baby in the stroller, even down to the dude wearing the backpack (like parents do). Also weird that he is pushing the stroller and it's the girl who goes to help with the heavy lifting while he stays there with the animals. Just all seems so backwards to me.

About 15 years ago out in Collierville (suburb of Memphis) my buddy used to take his cat out in the front yard and let it run around and such. One day, a bunch of us are sitting out side and a cop pulls up and tells him that he has to have his pet on a leash. Everybody is puzzled and asks the cop if he is serious because, well, it was a cat. He was serious or just seriously messing with us. Seeing as how all we did at this guys house was smoke weed and sit out in the yard watching those post high school/pre career days fly by we figured it would probably be best to comply. So my friend started keeping his cat on a leash out in the front yard. Eventually started taking it around on walks at the local park. He was a weird guy.
