If the only beer is $9 I’ll just buy a cocktail.

I don't know. I think a pint of something like Nola Blonde at Byron'z is $7.50 or $8.00.
That said, it's not "overpriced" as long as people are willing to pay that much. I'm not one of those people, and will happily drink a $3 Budweiser over a $7 Canebrake (even though I think Canebrake is a tastier beer).
Craft beer is fine and I like buying local...but (to me) it's not $4 - $5 dollars better.

Fist off, it’s hard to imagine even comparing the two, and secondly if I have to drink Budweiser, I’d actually rather just drink a vodka and tonic.

Byron’z Is generally overpriced so no argument there.
To compare the chimes is going to charge you $6-9 for a various craft beers in 22oz pours.
If you are paying $9 for a beer it’s at a place that wants you to buy cocktails or it’s a place that doesn’t want you to gas 8 bud lights with your cheese fries

So what y'all are saying is if I open a craft brewery, I need to have a watery, sweet American lager on tap for you pussies to not get your panties in a bunch?
I'll call it Baw Light. $4/pint

How can a Parrish envie cost 9 bucks in Lafayette?
It’s made right around the corner.
That's weird. When I went to school we were taught that supply and demand controlled price. I wonder when basic economics changed to distance of production.

I stopped buying Parish beer at Rouses when they started pulling that $12 for a 4 pack bullshite. Mostly just buy Yeungling and Shiner nowadays.

I can't decide if I want to mock you for being poor or mock craft beer nerds. This is tough.

I drink in downtown Dallas and beers aren't $9, you're doing something wrong.
Also the "$" goes before the value, not after dumbass.
I just got back from Dallas and a friggin Ultra was $8
I switched to Double Maker's on rocks because they were only $18

I have to believe that the vast majority of people in my state would much prefer consuming copious mounts of sub par beer than a moderate amount of actual good beer. It must stem from their college years. I remember them well, good old quarters with Schaefer’s and Milwaukee’s Best until you couldn’t stand up, back when we had the palate of a piece of Rubber, and thought Bud Light was some high end shite. At some point I think you grow, but some never do. I don’t get it. We had rotary phones too, but I haven’t used one of those in many years. Anyone use rotary phones anymore?

Economies of scale. Craft brewers don't have much of it.

We have a winner.
Very similar thing for wine as well, and why buying more expensive wine doesn’t make the wine taste better. It has a lot to do with the amount of product. Lots of factors driving alcohol prices, but I’d say you’re on point with this.

This beer is at Whole Foods here in Houston. They put it on at least 2 months ago and it's still on. Nobody is paying $9/pint for this so it just sits. I got my bartender to agree to a pint for $5-she's tired of it just taking up space on their tap lines. It's actually not a bad beer if you like brett.
And yes that is Chatte Wagon right below it....

I enjoy a good, flavorful, strong craft beer more than I enjoy a good mixed drink.
If a place is selling drafts for $7-$9 each, they are seling mixed drinks for that much (if not more) and the mixed drinks are smaller.
Drinking craft beer isn't about getting hammered as cheap as possible, it's about enjoying the beer.
