How is that largely men though? Your next sentence even mentions beards.

Women don't really have the option of growing leg hair like a beard.

Do you have quantitative data on this?

Well, and I’m a bit surprised I’m having to point this out to you and you couldn’t figure it out for yourself, at least in that commercial, it’s men.

Or Gillette doesn't care about losing some male customers when they can gain other men PLUS women. Gillette sells women's razors through its Venus line. With women's razor's costing more, every woman that replaces a man is profit. That they chose to piss off some people to gain others is also pretty free market.

For those who shave their faces, how often do they shave?

How often do women shave their armpits, legs, genitals, etc.?

One happens more frequently and results in burning through razors faster, not to mention the thickness of facial hair compared to leg hair.

Scruffy would bet that men buy razors more often than women, or at least the more expensive ones.

I don't see anything wrong with that. At all. And in my opinion that's all the commercial is trying to say

Women's disposable razors are more expensive than men's.

Suckers who think paying $25 for a pack of razors that don't shave any better than cheaper alternatives.

They slapped the word "gamer" on a fricking vibrating razor.

It has nothing to do with gaming at all. It's just a Fusion Power (which by itself is just as worthless) handle and they just stuck the word "gamer" on the package.

The main difference is right here when you said "for those who shave their faces" vs a generic "women."

I would bet far more women shave their legs/etc regularly than men who shave their face daily.

But I thought beards were killing razor sales? You can't have this both ways.

True, but that likely accounts for the difference in purchasing frequency.

I agree with this.

Men don’t need to allow fighting and sexual harassment to be men. That doesn’t have to be who we are. We can build ourselves up without tearing others down. Gillette is right. This isn’t the Uber-liberal agenda that it’s being made out to be. This is a call to be better people. To not be trash. To be good and live great lives and make the world a better place

Edit: not changing my buying practices though

I really wonder if they did their research on this and made an informed decision.

1) How many men’s razors are sold per year vs. how many women’s razors or sold per year.
2) How many men’s razors are purchased by women (wifes and mothers) for men?
3) How strong is brand loyalty?

Or did they just hire a firm to make a commercial?

It’s simple business 101. They should have asked two simple questions before releasing this commercial.

1. How many people will be less likely to buy our product as a result of this ad?

2. How many people will be more likely to buy our product as a result of this ad.

So, you’re a smart guy as far as I can tell. How many men will see that ad who currently buy Gillette razors will stop doing so now? And how many men who don’t currently buy Gillette razors will drop their current razor preference and start buying their razors because of that ad?

I would almost guarantee they did. A company as big as Gillette doesn't just get to where they are off luck and prayers.

Teaching the kid to protect himself vs watch one kid beat the crap out of another are two very different things.
