re: I'm never letting my daughter do spring break or summer vacation in Cancun...

I was rear ended stopped outside of Playa Del Carmen by an idiot drunk who didn't even brake. Impact at, as far as I can tell, roughly 60 mph.
My mom was in the rear driver's side seat, my wife (in her 2nd trimester of pregnancy) was in the passenger's seat and my 2 year old daughter was in the rear passenger's seat.
We walked away with little in terms of injuries. I had a high ankle sprain, my mom had her head hit the window and had a concussion (both of us had whiplash). Wife and daughter were perfectly fine.
Spent thousands of dollars that was charged prior to being seen for my mom and wife to be seen at the hospital because the National Guard (who oversee accidents in the area) sent the insurance rep to the wrong hospital (I never was reimbursed even after a year of consistent effort). The Hospital required payment prior to any assistance, including observation.
Shitty countries suck arse.
Pic of the wreck for reference:

If you play with fire, you’re going to get burned. It’s sad but true.

This happens all the time down there and is a well documented scam between the bartender, local police and the “hospital” with the local cartel likely taking a cut.
Just saying the story is all over the place. From the accounts on their FB to the gofundme... you would just think something would be consistent. Not even a mention of the resort until later. Planet Hollywood apparently.

I went to Cancun for my senior trip. We didn't have a club or anything on the resort so we went go into town a few nights we were there. It's a miracle nothing bad happened. I probably would never let my daughter go, strictly because of the possibility that should could end up in the city.

They do this in the states too without insurance.

My wife's Aunt was down around Tulum or south of there a couple of weeks ago. Wound up having to get an emergency appendectomy. Public hospital couldn't see her and had a couple day wait. They had to go to a fancy private practice that wanted $5k just to get in the door and then $15k up front for the surgery. Out the door was about $33k
This happened to my coworker on her honeymoon in Mexico. Almost same exact scenario and they advised her not to fly home bc they were afraid it ruptured and there was blood in her abdomen. I think she ended up having her brother or brother in law wire them the money for the surgery. Was around $25 grand I believe.

True, but at least the hospital doesn't hold your pregnant wife for ransom.

That middle picture looks staged as hell. Who holds hands while drinking water? And no pics of the brunette in the hospital. Blondie probably got some bad coke and they had to make an elaborate story to cover up what really happened. And they were dumb enough to think Mexico had a free ER.

For some reason, people think we live in a consequence free society. That's not the way reality works. You take risks, sometimes you lose.

Not sure why people still vacation in Mexico. No perks and if something happens while you are there, you are fricked. Same thing with Jama
Go to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands if you want a beach vacation outside of the continental United States with similar distance/cost as Mexico.

Jamaica or the DR are safer at least within the resorts. Mexico isn’t even safe there given all the stories of people getting a drink from the bar and having issues because the alcohol was adulterated in some fashion.
You literally picked the two shittiest Caribbean countries. Those are both just smaller versions of Mexico.
Bahamas, BVI, USVI, Caymans, St. Martin are light years ahead of those 2 crap islands.

Ahh yes, fentanyl. The current drug boogie man. Fentanyl didn't paralyze these girls. If they OD'd on fentanyl, they would have just fallen asleep peacefully and stopped breathing. Not to mention, it would take a hell of a lot longer to enter the bloodstream through and oral administration.

Snider rushed her to the hospital and remained by her side as staff reportedly demanded thousands of dollars for treatment.
'They had increased the money they wanted. The baseline was $10,000 for them to even look at me,' Hull said.
This is an existing scam.
Drug you to where you need a trip to the "hospital" and then demand that you pay some ridiculous amount or they keep you sedated in said "hospital."
It happened to a fraternity brother and his wife in Cabo several years ago where his wife was given a massive dose of rohypnol/GHB that caused the same symptoms in the OP. Their experience went like this:
Hotel: I'm sorry Mr/Mrs Target, your room isn't ready, we have complimemtary drinks for you at the bar.
..one drink later..
She's being rushed to a "hospital" in an ambulance the hotel called.
It was a scam between both hotel/hospital.

Regardless, don’t ever go to a hospital in Mexico or all of Central America except maybe Panama. Don’t rent a car either for that matter. Extorting tourists is a sad fact of life for those frickers.
Can only speak to Costa Rica, but I couldn't disagree with any of this more than I do.

That’s an interesting strategy by the hospital but when it comes to life and death, i would imagine most people are gonna fork over the money to save a life.

So BCBS won't work in, say, Cabo?
Posted on 8/13/24 at 8:45 am to RollTide1987
It blows my mind that so many people think they can vacation to a third-world shithole like Mexico and leave unscathed. Yeah it’s cheap, but it’s cheap for a reason.

People go to Cancun for debauchery...you roll that dice when you put yourself in those people's hands
