Enjoy the CPAP. I hear it’s life changing for people without necks.

I had similar issues. When they put the mask on me at the sleep study I didn’t enjoy it at all. I couldn’t wear those masks during COVID either. I would start sweating when I had to wear one. I talked to the sleep doctor’s nurse. She asked if I had ever been smothered, suffocated, choked, etc. I told her no. She asked about if I had ever come close to drowning. When I was four or five I got knocked into a lake off of a pier by a lab I was throwing a ball into the lake playing fetch with. No adults were around, and I couldn’t swim. I remember floating to the bottom and pushing off and coming up for air. Eventually someone came looking, jumped in and pulled me out. I am lucky. The nurse said it is common for people who have had something like that in their past to have an issue with the mask.

Once I figured it out I was fine. I can’t sleep without the CPAP now. Keep at it, it will pay off.

I was told I stopped breathing 25 times an hour, for up to 1 minute.

How does that translate to AHI?

It was explained to me as how many times in an hour your sleep is being interrupted by your apnea as averaged over an entire sleep period (8 hours, I think).

Unless you are jacked that is 15 or so pounds overweight, but not obese.

So 5'10" @ 215 would be obese? Guessing that applies to non athletes?

Two sleep studies for me regarding snoring. Also a few ENT visits.

Nothing wrong with me. Suggested some painful invasive surgery that might fix it.

it. Almost every night I try to use it I wake up about 2AM and throw it on the floor.
ditto

I can fall asleep fine with it. Wake up 2.5 hours after every night. I can lay there with it and drift off eventually or I can take it off, roll over and be back asleep in a minute.

I keep trying. Odd thing is it rarely shows I have an event. Like once a week maybe.

You will carry that stigma the rest of your life. It’s on every medical form and insurance companies hold it against you.

I had the surgery. It was brutal but I’m glad I did it.

I haven’t used my APAP machine but maybe a handful of times in the past year

Weight isn't always an indicator of obstructive sleep apnea.

Yes, and it goes both ways. Not all obese people have OSA and not all people with OSA are obese. However, there is a consistent association with the two. About 40% of people that are obese have OSA and a little over 70% of people with OSA are obese.

Weight is like a lot of issues we have as we get older. It is a natural "man" response to push them aside and ignore them because they represent some sort of weakness. Exercise and being close to ideal weight or body fat if you are a genetic outlier is one of the best things people can do for quality of life. Mingo said something very salient one time and I am paraphrasing "people have felt like shite so long it has become the status quo".

tOT loves to sing the virtues of fat shaming but revolts when the mirror is turned around. It is a completely natural thing to do but it makes the road to slipping into feeling like shite and thinking it is normal very easy to do.

I just got my machine and have been using it for almost a month. Have the full face mask. Everything going perfectly until I went in a few days ago and they saw my average air push I guess you'd call it and he set it up to continously blow that amount as soon as I turn it on. Now I wake up with a super dry mouth throughout the night. Adjusting the humidifier does nothing. What can I do?

Call them back and explain what is happening. I’m sure they have seen that before and can help you solve that.

I’ve been using my mask for about 3 weeks now. It’s a game changer.

I used to wake up 3-4 times at night, always craving a snack of some sort. I would be wide awake. Now, I wake up once or twice max, depending on how often I need to use the bathroom.

I’m always tired, never have energy, never excited about much. Hope that changes

This was me. Within a week I was waking up earlier. I felt ready to seize the day so-to-speak. I used to nap daily, now it’s down to once a week. I fall asleep much easier. I’m much less irritable. No complaints on the mask.
