Can you afford to pay $2,200 per month for housing with 25% or less of your income?
My Butlers butler can afford that

Wait, you're saying 1700-1800 sqft house would not be enough for a couple with no kids?
That is plenty of space for even a couple with a kid.

I was exaggerating, but I also spend a lot of time in the garage or backyard or on the patio.

My neighbors have a house about the same size as mine and they have 3 boys. They seem perfectly happy. They're not poor and they specifically chose that house about 2 years ago when they moved.

I live in Houston inside the loop and only pay $1800 including HOA every month.
Mind if I ask which neighborhood?

Yes, but I'm a long way from north Mississippi.

I just finished a home addition which will put us around 4500 sqft living. It's entirely too large. Our mortgage is 2750 a month all in, but with TX property taxes increasing it will probably eclipse 3k next year. Dual income in tech with 3 kids.

Sure. But I don't have any payments on anything. Not vehicles, house, cattle farm, tractors, etc. I also don't owe a dime on our 5th wheel camper, boat and 2 jet skis, side by side and 4 wheeler.
We are able to save or waste our whole income.

How big of a home would that get me? I am curious, if I get laid off a backup plan is farming and cattle in MS.

You got like six kids? Because that's a metric frick ton of house for even your average wife and two kids under today's standards.
You could raise a family of six in 600 sqft in the early twentieth, and that was considered luxury at the time.

. We're selling for double what we built for in 2015.
2765 sqft
600 sqft finished basement
1200 sqft garage
.75 acre lot
I got this sans basement in 2016 for $170k in a very solid community with 7/10 school zones in Georgia.
The interwebz says it's worth 300k now.
