That's a big generalization. Someone from the Delta, or from South Texas deals with minorities way more than some liberal from Vermont.
I live in a rural area that's 70% white, most of them are poor also. I deal with more minorities, and people of different income brackets on daily basis than my friends who live in Austin or Dallas

This sums it up.
Its important to separate rural mid-America from the cities in mid-America. Places like suburban DFW are no longer white-bread. Take Coppell, TX which used to be all about HS football and a slice of Americana. Now its heavily Indian and those families emphasize academics to a point where whites feel inferior and move further out.

Boom.
And when we get tired of doing all those things, we move way the frick out to the suburbs where we have to endure horrible traffic. And slowly, we watch the decay creep out to the suburbs, in the form of apartment complexes. Thanks, Section 8. And we move further away.
After a while, when some middle class try to move back to the city and invest and try to make it nice again, they are accused of gentrification.

And no, not many people from "fly over states" have lived in NYC, DC, San Fran or LA.
Plenty of people who currently live in NYC, DC, San Fran and LA grew up in fly over country and got the hell out.

Plenty of people living in fly over states have moved there from elsewhere. Plenty of people living in big cities couldn't even place Kansas or Iowa on a map. Sweeping generalizations mean nothing here.

It makes no difference where you live when the majority of people gather with people who think like they do and engage in groupthink.
Iowa seems faaaar more representative of various ideologies than D.C., NYC or San Fran.

And I'm not talking other states. I'm talking other countries.
...and there are plenty of people who grew up in NYC, DC, San Fran, and LA and got the hell out as well.

Ditto. I currently live in Cola, SC and this is about as big of a city as I want to live in. Wouldn't mind moving back to my hometown of Huntsville either.
