Stopped there one night on a drive out west. Motel recommended a local restaurant that was crowded. Two women invited me to join them for dinner, and we had a good dinner chatting about women things. They ate there every ?Th night for the weekly special and their husbands were there, in the back room for their weekly entry into the local poker game.
Nice people. Memorable for the good company offered to a stranger.

These may not be your thing but better than staying in Wichita the whole time.
Go out and visit the Flint Hills. You’ll still be in Kansas but you won’t feel like you’re in KS anymore
Do a self guided Cowley County stone bridge tour. Map at the following link. You’ll see some cool one horse towns and county back roads. Best part is that practically all roads run in a grid so you can easily explore back roads and get to where you are going.
Stone Arch Bridges
Go visit the Amish community of Yoder.
Go to Henry’s Candy Co in Dexter. Lore has it’s the home of the O’Henry bar.

Ughhh what I'm dreading. Hopefully the work keeps me busy enough to forget that I'm there
Where are you from? I'd say it's as good or better than about 98% of Louisiana towns, so if that's your barometer I'd say you'll be fine.

Our boy Pedro lives there.
He’s been in two road rage incidents recently so watch out.
Maybe he’s just a bad driver.

If you are into Space, about 50 miles NW of Wichita is the Hutchinson Cosmosphere Space Museum.
Cosmosphere
If you are into airplanes there is Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita. Wichita is or was the home of most of the major aircraft manufacturers, Cessna, Beechcraft, Lear, Boeing, Airbus.

Sedgwick County zoo is nice. You can take a salt mine tour in Hutchinson or visit the Cosmoshere.

I've spent time between Huntsville and Nashville.
It's not that I've heard bad things about Wichita, it's that I haven't heard anything about it. So I guess it's just not a place many people travel to therefore the list of recommendations are not that long

You can go to Emerson Biggins.
Biggest liquor store I ever saw was in Witchita. Size of a small grocery store.

They have some damn solid breweries out there, and the downtown is fun to walk around in. Reverie coffee is damn solid, and they also have fantastic soup place out there that sells flights of soup.
