If you're not a Christian, is there any point to marriage?

I guess there are some tax benefits, but other than that what do men gain from marriage other than the moderate possibility of extreme financial pain 10, 20, or 30 years in?

Not discounting the importance of having a strong woman in your life, but does the actual marriage make sense?

All cultures, religious and otherwise, used to cherish the orderly propagation of humanity.

I'm not sure what happened.

Marriage is not a religious thing, its a legal thing, Which is why gay marriage should stand.

Dont look at me, look at the chirstians who also dont follow until death do us part and no-fault divorces.

Good marriages are the common denominator in the large majority of good, productive families.

Good, productive families are the bedrock of our culture and society (or were).

Fact, marriage didn't start until Christianity came around.

Yes

Marriage provides a strong framework to raise children. A loosely arranged cohabitation agreement will lead to insecure environment for children.

If you don’t intend to have kids then maybe there isn’t any reason to get formally married

Marriage is about monogamy, raising children and keeping male and female nature in check.

It has a lot of broad societal effects that people underestimate.

Good marriages are the common denominator in the large majority of good, productive families.

Good, productive families are the bedrock of our culture and society (or were).

All serious studies looking at outcomes for children support the notion that having two functional parents in the same house is the single biggest differentiator between success and failure for children.

A black child from a two parent home is statistically more likely to have a positive outcome than a white child, even compared to a white child with two parents living together for example.

The short term needs of a parent should be secondary to those of their children, but most adults were never taught how to have a successful marriage in the first place so we see chaos and unreasonable expectations lead to unhappiness and the perpetuation of toxic behavior.

I think Jews, Hindus, and most Muslims tend to mate for life, too.

marriage was a thing long before Christianity was thought up

if you don't have kids then there isn't really a point other than taxes and showing commitment.
