He asked why do I care where someone gets married. My response was that I don’t. That applies to both white & black folks.

My stance from the beginning is that I don’t see the appeal & that I have no problem with wedding sites opting to not promote plantations as a venue.

However, I know of zero black folks that have ever gotten married at a plantation. And I have plenty of close black friends. Getting married at a plantation for them would be the same as getting married at a concentration camp as a Jew, at least that’s the way I see it. I’m sure others may feel differently.

Is there a nice pretty house available to host the wedding? I don't see a problem.

Lol. Not the "I have black friends" card. Although, I do agree, most black folks aren't going to get married on a plantation. Your assumption that they would view it akin to a concentration camp is straight projection. You don't speak for black people; your views aren't necessarily theirs.

Hemingbough wasn't an actual plantation, just built to replicate one, so you are ok.

Ah, but the grounds of Hemingbough were once part of a slave owning plantation, so he really isn't.

I saw this earlier. Look private companies don't have to show weddings that are held on plantations or whatever.. But how fricking stupid is this? Its some activist group that is behind it right?

Why are we at the point where special interest groups have a bigger voice than the people? There are black people who have weddings at plantations. Plantations are beautiful homes.

Yes, I understand slaves lived on plantations, but that was in the 1800s. Things evolve as time goes on. Look at political parties. The republican party today would be closer to the democrat party back then and vice versa.

Slave owners use to drink water, does that mean everyone who drinks water has some connection to or supports slavery?

This is stupid.

I have worked at a river plantation. Black people do get married there.

How many slaves were kept in what we now call the French Quarter? There was a slave jail in New Orleans.

How many slaves in New Orleans were owned by free persons of color?

Wedding websites, which are incredibly useful and standard practice, are starting to ban any reference to plantations on their UI.

That is absurd. I was married at a former plantation that my family owns and I now wouldn't be allowed to call it by it's name or show pictures?

The cleansing and censoring of history is truly terrifying to me. It is some Brave New World type shite.

As do I. We got married at a bed and breakfast. She's also a descendant of slaves and slave owners. And she's been the treasurer and president on the board of a slave plantation historical preservation society. I bet her view of slavery, plantations and concentration camps doesn't match up with yours.

Weddings not in churches or centers of worship, IMO, are below a level of distinction.

I have always thought weddings at plantations were odd given the history of those anti-human institutions.

Because churches don't have a despicable human rights history

That made my morning

Im agnostic, why would i get married in a church?

Also the catholic church harbors pedophiles, so, yeah, they are all clean and good.

Yet you had no issue claiming that black people should believe as you do.

I've been to Omaha Beach and it is gorgeous the right time of year. And my grandfather served in WW2.

If there was a beautiful home or church with a large garden near the shore, I'd absolutely get married there.

Also, a quick google shows both places host weddings

That's because, no matter what some people want to make it out to be, they are usually beautiful areas that provide a great setting to host a wedding.
