Military for 10 years, gather pension and free tuition. Major in an engineering field. Go work for fed gov from 32-57. Retire. Get two government pensions, 401k, then SS. Pretty good plan. I know an older fella at my church who did this and he's worth about 15 mil.
Best post I have ever read. For real.

Lockheed or similar company will also snatch you up and pay you a boatload too if you've done a military contract and get an engineering degree. Do there's more options.
Then they'll pay for your MBA so you can make even more money

Or you can graduate in engineering out of high school and do all that without being in the military

The only way I’d ever encourage the military is through a service academy. Everyone I know that has done them are impressive people and can pretty much do whatever they want with that resume

Military will give you a great pension and pay for yhat engineering degree at a top school. And you'll be in the front of the line for MANY jobs because of your military background.

Electrical engineer - huge focus on power generation over the next 100 yrs.
And if I wasn’t smart enough to be an engineer:
General business with a lean towards insurance/ risk management or construction. Then just get in and work your arse off.
Military

Some sort of engineering. Mechanical is the most versatile. Industrial Engineering as an alternative if you can’t get through a true engineering degree.
Gain some experience out of school.
Move into supply chain.
Make $$$$$$

I probably made the wrong decision being an astronaut since I’m afraid of heights. If I could do it all over I’d probably just be in a drum circle.

What are you folks who plan to stay in La doing with finance degrees?
I always heard you need to go to a great school if you want to major in that and plan to live out of state if you want to make good money in that.

Why would you go to college when you can work in a plant and make six figs?

Probably environmental engineering, not near as rigorous a degree as ChemE or ME, solid pay, and Public and Private sectors are just about always hiring.

Some combo of robotics and AI, but I am a technical guy. It wouldn't be a good fit for a lot of others. I wouldn't be a good doctor or financial planner, so picking the right field of study starts with understanding your lane.

MIS degree and every Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS and SAP certification I could cram in.
