If you tested positive for COVID, how do they know what variant you have?

Does the test spit out the exact variant you have?

It’s assumptions.

They have to send it off to the lab to get the exact variant. The test you take dont tell you

The governmental agencies have done sampling testing for variants on random positive patients in the area and they figure that is the variant going around. No way could we genotype every positive person.

Do you have mild symptoms? If yes then Omicron. Plus omicron is supposedly an order of magnitude more contagious than delta

Had it June 2020 and now again last week. Similar symptoms. But this time the fever lingered and had less of a cough. Both minor congestion. I think it’s all conjecture like all the other bullshite associated with the wuhan flu.

why do we not see any more delta cases now that we have omicron?

By sampling testing, sending off a percentage of tests to a lab for sequencing.
Some areas also do waste water testing and that can give an idea of what variant is most prominent in an area as well.

A certain percentage of tests are genome sequenced in a lab to identify variants. That is a very small percentage of all tests. Based on this sample, they have a good idea of the percentage of each variant spreading in the population, but on a micro level, unless your specific test is sequenced, it's just an extrapolation from the population statistics.

Most tests run in offices look for Covid but not a specific strain. My understanding is that right now it’s mostly omicron with a sprinkling of delta.

They can differentiate at the hospital, but no idea if the rapid or PCR can tell the difference.

Stop getting tested for colds. I feel like it’s a government psyop all these people posting how they tested positive for Omicron. Trying to keep getting people tested to drive up the numbers.

If I’m not mistaken Omicron has yet to claim a life

It is a lot milder but it has taken a couple.
First in US was a unvaccinated guy in Texas a week ago who previously had COVID.

Individually they don’t. They test a sample number for particular Variants and then apply statistical analysis to know how prevalent each variant is in a particular region.

This.
Just take precautions and stay the frick home: Rest, fluids and tylenol/advil.

Genetic sequencing. Takes 2-4 days and costs a fortune. Only 50-60 labs nationwide can run this kind of testing.
How do I know: I own a clinical laboratory doing genomics.
