Thought about this a lot and actually think he was probably more desperate than anything. The way this stuff works is these people come from inside the city by van and someone drops them off at the front of neighborhoods to go do their thing. Our neighborhood is pretty big and spread out and there are no streetlights. He was probably lost, hot, and thirsty. He was just way too aggressive and the sweating I took for drugs since he kept his big jacket on.

If mine comes out it is drawing blood.

You people who say, "If I draw my gun I'll be using it" need to think a step further (and/or get some defensive handgun/legal training).

If you draw your weapon and the attacker drops his weapon, shooting him/her is no longer justified.

If your attacker (let's say armed with a machete) runs away when he/she sees your weapon, you can't legally use deadly force.

It's a simple principle:"When the threat ends, your right to use deadly force ends."

I live in the big bad city and have never needed to feel myself to ward off the big bad wolf. You white people are so scared of your shadow maybe a Xanax would help.

People carry pocket knives because in those rare moments when they are useful, to open up a box, etc they have it.. Its a tool.

Same thing with a gun. Why is this a hard concept? People just prefer to not get robbed or killed if there is that rare moment it can happen and they would like to have the opportunity to defend themselves.

You big city boys just don't get it. Yall are a bunch of pussies.

I don’t have my carry license just yet so I have to leave it in the vehicle.

This is not true if you live in La! I take mine into Walmart in Hammond every time I enter by open carrying.

but people freak the frick out, so CC is the "neighborly" way to carry.

I hear that point but the way I look at it, I don’t care! Do not be ignorant to your rights, then there would be no need to freak out. And I really don’t care about feelings.

Stupid fricking line of questioning... you better be god damn sure if I point a weapon at someone, they’re gonna get fired on...

The only reason you should point a weapon at somebody is if you intend to fire at them...

For those who leave their guns in vehicles...

Just realize that's part of the reason we all have to carry.

Did it ever occur to you to let the guy use your phone, or at least make a call for him? You're certainly under no obligation, but it sounds like you had a handle on who he was. If he hadn't had a warrant out, presumably he'd have just kept wandering around your neighborhood.

If anyone has done #1 only, they probably shouldn’t have a CCL.

Had a very similar situation happen when I was home alone (I am female). I did not open the door at any point. Grabbed a gun and called the cops then my husband. There was no need to even consider firing (or brandishing) a weapon unless the person tried to come through the door.

I understand your point/angle and please understand I'm just aiming to learn here. I believe your point is if you put your hand on the gun, then you will draw and fire?
That's a very quick set of decisions to make so I'm trying to get a grasp of it. I also realize every threatening situation is different relative to the level of threat.

Trying to make that decision between my life "may" be in jeopardy vs. my life "is" in jeopardy seems to be the delineating factor.

So if one were to believe my life "may" be in jeopardy and putting your hand on your weapon and thereby sending the message to the threatening party; might that be enough to neutralize the situation. I also imagine that may prompt the other person to draw and fire should they also be armed.

Perhaps the answer to my question is if you believe your life "may" be in jeopardy, then you change paths so to speak (deescalation, leaving scene if possible) and your hand never touches your weapon.

Just trying to learn here.

My opinions is that if you are going to carry you have one decision, to use your weapon or not. There is no ramping up. Touching it, brandishing it. Either shoot or don’t do anything
