I could definitely find work in Boise. Probably not much in some of the smaller cities in Idaho. At least they wouldn't pay me what I can make in a decent sized market.
Luckily my job has tons of remote opportunities and my wife's job pretty much exists everywhere.

Coeur d'Alene, fun ski/lake town in North Idaho. I like McCall better because it's the same setup but slightly less pretty, but you have access to Boise which is a way better city than Spocompton.
Tamarack area is another good one with one of the best golf courses in the country. I don't know if it's still open though.

If some of you Louisiana baws will move to Coeur d'Alene first and start a restaurant or two I will follow you

Coeur d’Alene. When you live here long enough you get tired of spelling that out. LOL
Also for everybody saying Sandpoint it is a cool little town But also puts you in a little over two hours from the airport and there are not any towns of substantial size till you get back to CDA which is 45 minutes south. A lot of my clients think they want to move there and they end up moving closer to CDA because of that.

Do you live in rural Alaska or near one of the cities?
I've been to Anchorage and Fairbanks a few times.
Like the locals say, Anchorage is as close as you can get to Alaska without actually being in Alaska.
I am remote. No roads, only access is by plane, but we have a post office and can get most things from town through air taxies.

There's also two decent universities close to CDA and Gonzaga in Spokane if your kids want to stay close to home. Wouldn't recommend U of I though they'll just turn into drug addict alcoholics lol

Which is closest to the Gulf of Mexico? I'll take that one.

Stop talking about Idaho. It's a middle class secret. Can't have undesirables reading this and finding out about it.

What if you think the mountains are beautiful, but you can’t handle driving in them?
My fear of heights is crippling.

Honestly, don’t rule out AK. Not sure I will ever leave this place.
Same here, it's absolute heaven. Some of the best small towns/small cities in the country...
When I retire, I'm finding a small coastal town, Juneau is too big and turning into a micro version of West Coast cities.

Then you don’t have to ever drive in the mountains if you don’t want to. LOL most of the town is in prairie areas or more Rollinghills. The mountains are all rural areas

Haven't you been to Eagle and the north end of Boise or Sun Valley/Ketchum? That ship sailed 10 years ago

I think I'm a little too spoiled by modern conveniences to live that far off the grid.
I could definitely live 15 minutes outside of a city of 30k or so but otherwise in the middle of nowhere. We like going out to restaurants and stuff like that sometimes.

Unlike CO, most of the roads are in valleys in these other States.
