McDonalds in Dublin is 24 hours

Lived in Ireland for 4.5 years, lived in Russia six months, and I've spent about a year in Switzerland, and another year and a half putzing about the continent between work and school.
None of them is all that appealing, TBH. The relief of returning to the US after the longest segment abroad was palpable. I still go back to Switzerland to visit the MIL, but even the kids recognize its a nice place to visit, rather than live.

I’d leave the us and live In pretty much any European countries. Only reason I am still here is wife doesn’t want to move.

In a not so amazing coincidence, in addition to being an American citizen, I'm also a Canadian citizen of the French Canadian variety. My French is terrible.

A girl I went to HS with married a guy from Norway and lives over there. She's a CPA by training but teaches English there. I don't know what her husband does. Their house is rather small by American middle class standards and they only have one car. But they have a secure retirement, they don't have to worry about catastrophic medical expenses and their kids' education is paid for as far as they want to go. She seems content.

I would miss the rural culture of the US too much.
Hunting. fishing, big vehicles, wide open space.
I could see the allure of Europe for those who live in the city since our cities are crumbling and crime ridden. But it’s not for me. I’ll stick to my small town of 900 with my arsenal and wide open land to frick around on

Same, that and the language barrier (England is not a place I'd want to live). The only place that I've ever been where I'd be tempted to go is Darwin, Australia. It's a very nice small city with a frontier feel.

I'd enjoy the happy medium of a small, but dense, mountain or seaside town. Not too much hunting to be done, but still plenty of fishing and water/snow sports.

They have way less violent crime. We have cities that have more homicides than entire countries.
They do have more petty theft and pick pocketing though. More street brawls, but it rarely gets deadly.
We do disposable income better in the United States. Almost all jobs there pay once a month and after taxes and bills there is only so much left. You really have to budget.
No such thing as having crawfish boils or barbeque on Saturdays during football season.
The average house is tiny and can't accommodate that many people and there isn't enough money to really enjoy life honestly.
Living in Europe is like living in New York or California on a Alabama or Louisiana salary . Things are just really tight.
The average disposable income by country
These are average disposable income per household after taxes etc
The average American household has about over 2 grand a month more in actual purchasing power.
Over 25k difference for an average household would be a huge decline in living standards.
Europeans will tell they live a minimal life, but It was very meager to my family and we jumped at an opportunity to come back to the States

I was really impressed with Vienna when visiting last year. Clean streets, nice people, incredibly efficient metro run on the honor system so no need for tickets or gates. Distinct neighborhoods that gathered together for social events/causes. A ring of vineyards around the city with wine gardens. Great arts scene and shopping. Restaurants were as good as anywhere in Europe. Ski slopes or hiking an hour away.
