“If you aren’t pulling 6 figs by 30, you should re-evaluate your life” Is this wrong?

What percentage of the population do you think actually does that?

Let me fix it for you:

“If you’re primarily concerned with making 6 figs by 30, you should re-evaluate your life.”

Yup. All depends on where you are at. It's like trying to make a blanket statement about quality of life based on income. $200,000 Household income is quite comfy in South LA but you would be poor in Manhattan.

Depends on where you live. People under 30 pulling in over 6 figures here in Birmingham is likely a pretty small number. It's probably easier to do in other cities though, even Atlanta.

By that logic, the vast majority of folks need to re-evaluate their life. Personally, I had a couple of six figure years prior to 30, but it wasn’t consistent until my mid-30’s. It’s spending that needs to be re-evaluated, if anything. I know folks in the high 6 figure income bracket that are miserable, but others that don’t make close to 100k but are happy. Striving after the almighty dollar can cost more than its worth.

There are not as many six figure jobs in Louisiana as there are people claiming to make six figures in Louisiana.

There are plenty of doctors who are still residents at 30 pulling in $60K a year.

I'm guessing less than 10% of the population makes 6 figures.

Yeah, I wasn't even close at 30. I was working for a large financial company in 2008 and was hoping not to get laid off. Probably wouldn't have been the best time to go demand a higher salary

I can live my life happily making just under 100k like I have done for years.

Side bar: A rapper once said "Money don't make me a millionaire. My mindset does." and I've never heard anything more ridiculous in my life. You need a million dollars to be a millionaire.

Friend,

The great gauge of success in life is one’s relationship with Jesus Christ, which is made manifest through acts of sacrificial love for the widow, orphan, and prisoner, kindness, humility, and forgiveness. Numbers do not matter in this, the true realm of life.

Yours,

Sounds like a question someone that doesn't make 6 figures would worry about

yes and no. let me explain...some people are not into going after the money. They are not wired that away. They value other things such as security and following a passion. Coaches, teachers etc are perfect example.

The other thing you need to realize, before the pandemic, only 9% of Americans in total made 6 figures. Its much less than that now.

So are the other 90% failures by not doing it by...lets say 55?

I think sometimes its hard for those that fly up the ranks to relate to those that just....well arent as talented.

I have plenty of engineers I work with, that they struggle to complete projects and task that I think are easy as hell. they are otherwise talented and smart individuals, but they often struggle to complete task.

I am able to play half the day and still be considered a rock star. Some people just dont have that ability and its ok and they are not a failure.

IF you raise a good family and provide a good life for your spouse and kids, no matter the salary, you are anything but a failure. Especially if you do that while being happy.

Agreed. If you aren't living below your means / saving for retirement emergencies and investments by 30 you should re-evaluate.
