Because bowing down is showing respect.

It shows submission. When we respect each other we make eye contact, shake hands, maybe a bro-hug.

We don’t worship each other and bow down.

On the other hand, if all of your sins are forgiven, then why not get away with whatever you can, then repent at the very end?

Because repenting at the end is not what a good person does. A good person is committed to continuous improvement. Some people do that by embracing a role model like Jesus.

So, the thought of living in a burning lake of fire being tormented forever is not terrifying?

The person isn't saying that the heaven part is terrifying, he is saying that living forever is terrifying. It is incomprehensible to the human mind.

So, if a person does horrible things their entire life, but on their deathbed, they confess their sins, express remorse, ask Jesus for forgiveness, and believe that His forgiveness is real, they will still burn in Hell for eternity?

Isn’t that an example of gullible thinking?

Of all the things your fellow people convince you of, burning in a lake of fire after you die is plausible to you? Because of the writing of ancient men?

If you believe in a loving God, why would such a creator design such a concept?

How do you sort through what you hear on the 24 hr news channels and what politicians and other charlatans say?

That is because you have been indoctrinated since birth and still have a child-like understanding. A "burning lake of fire"? For real?

Have you considered that if you had been born in Saudi Arabia, there is a 99% chance that you would be Muslim right now?

The whole concept of people being tortured forever in burning hell seems incompatible with the idea that God is Love.

Well that’s because it is.

Christians do not believe that “God is Love” (neopaganism again); rather, Christians believe that God is the supreme being, ie a person, who created the universe and everything in it, and he is equally just and equally merciful.

That is a uniquely modern western view.

Why are brides supposed to submit to their husbands?

Because God created men and women to fulfill specific roles, and headship was given to men.

Men and women are still equal, but they have different complementary roles.

If true, he sure has very strange ways of showing it.

I do not believe a loving Creator will send any soul to a place like hell for an eternity. Doesn’t seem very loving and it seems to be a pointless misallocation of resources with very poor communication about this concept. What happens to humans who never have fellow humans explain this concept to them?

I do not believe in a need to have a belief in what happens when we die. But I do feel comfortable ruling out what seems implausible.

Loving fathers still have to discipline their children.

I consider myself somewhere between Deist and Agnostic. I can't prove to people there wasn't a God. To think about the big bang theory and evolution sometimes stretches my thoughts. Did evolution really get us to where we are now.

Believers can talk about a superior being responsible for everything, but can't offer proof. If that being is responsible for all and everything it has to include all the bad things in the world along with the good.

I've never questioned peoples beliefs, until they try and push them on me.

Wouldn't this loving father discipline his children in hopes that the discipline will improve the behavior of the child? Damning a person to eternity of torture for not believing in god would be like a father murdering his child for back talking to his mother.

Agreed. One of the reasons that I don't believe in a "loving" creator. I don't believe any a creator of any kind.

People are highly evolved animals. We're born, we die, we rot.

God knows ur imperfect. That’s why he sent his Son. He died and took that imperfection away so you can have everlasting life with him. But you get your chance to love and follow Jesus on Earth. There isn’t a second chance or do over after you die and why should there be? If you didn’t want to follow him on Earth, why would you want to worship him for eternity.

Indoctrinated and unashamed about it. And proud to be child like about it. You can attempt to shoot holes in everything about the Christian life and you will still fall short but keep trying.

Yes but we are free to choose, and choices have consequences.

That is a ridiculous equivalence

It’s ironic and sad that you accuse others of being indoctrinated while spewing secular humanist garbage throughout this thread.

If you feel like I'm "shooting holes in everything about the Christian life", that is a flaw in your thinking. I'm just giving you my point of view.

By the way, many Christians that I know don't believe in burning lakes of fire, either. It is a metaphor, not to be taken literally. It is used to scare children.
