3 of your biggest cities which probably account for 25% of the state's population are Democrat cesspool. If we could wipe out those numbers somehow, I'd imagine Louisiana could quickly turn into a place that people would want to be except in the sweltering hot months

Sadly, the same opportunistic thieves and crooks that have ruined the larger metro areas are present in the small towns. They’d simply fill the void. The culture and mindset of this state will never allow for a turnaround. The same thing that
Makes this place so unique is also what keeps it down. Ironic isn’t it?

No. It’s hideous and dirty. Every time we come home we’re struck by how ugly everything is. And it’s so fricking hot. Just unbearably hot and humid. And hurricanes will never stop coming. And the people are super trashy.

If New Orleans could right the ship, that would be nice- because there’s nowhere like New Orleans. But the rest of Louisiana fundamentally sucks.

Spoken like a true up their own arse New Orleanian.

HORRIBLE insurance situation for homeowners, flood and auto. The state is at the bottom of the entire US and has been for most of our lives. NOTHING is going to fix this cesspool.

First you need to encourage businesses to relocate to your state, this brings jobs which brings taxes which fixes everything.

That's the Texas model, no state income tax and favorable business taxes.

There's been 100's of large corporations relocate to Texas bringing there high salaries with them.

Bank of America, Toyota, Oracle, Caterpillar, Hewlett Packard just to name a few

Rat race? Is that what Louisiana cultists call freedom now?

Everyone? Absolutely not. But, if Louisiana became more attractive economically than living in a Houston suburb, a LOT would come home.

Most people in Louisiana really only want to be here, but are driven out by economic factors and corporations that force their workers to move around to climb the corporate ladder. Most folks don’t leave Louisiana on a whim.

Yes. But, it would be a legit miracle.

People are very open to moving for a better life. Louisiana has a lot to offer: hunting, fishing, LSU, Saints, Pelicans, New Orleans, lakes, rivers, Driskill Mountain etc etc.

I think you need to offer to give the parents their tax money to pay for schools if in an area with C or below schools. A lot more jobs would come here if school situations were not shite.

Nope, Houma. But I lived in Mandeville before moving and even it seems trashy compared to the nice Birmingham suburb in which I now live.

Oh god, never. Endless tract homes on a flat landscape is the last place I’d ever be. I live in Trussville, a nice Birmingham suburb. Beautiful topography. Good mix of old and new. Almost zero apartments. Great little town.

We'd need people to leave for others to come back.

We have different ideas about what words mean, because DFW is a nightmare of suburban sprawl.

And I agree about south Louisiana. It sucks. That’s why I don’t live there anymore.

Spot on. This is one of the most dilapidated, dirty, run down, trashy places in the country. It has natural beauty and some beautiful architecture. But overall, it’s a filthy sewer of halfassed, ill-advised, poorly executed infrastructure and construction.

But you can get a daiquiri at a drive thru.
