LOL

Many of our current states can't even fix roads or build buildings correctly and you think we're about to just up and start inhabiting another planet

Take a few female dogs, and that little horny fricker banging the rubber chicken in the other thread.

It would be way too hard to transport the animals. We just need to bring stem cells so we can clone them once we get there.

If dogs aren't at my destination, I'm not interested in going.

If you are looking to create a permanent, self-sustaining colony you would kind of have to bring animals along.

Why? Why does every area, either on earth or any other planet, in its “natural state” have to remain unmodified?

Yes, as food. What else are we going to eat on Mars? Matt Damon?

We bring good boys and girls everyone we go.

They are man's best friend.

Dogs, absolutely.

They've evolved along with us.

Still waiting for a better explanation on why it’s “unethical” to terraform Mars than because “we shouldn’t modify any area in its natural state.

By that line of reasoning we should still be hunter-gathers living in caves.

so you think we shouldn't have modified the earth. You don't like roads and buildings and such. You want to live in a cave and forage for food every day?

That logic doesn’t really make sense. It is in and of itself a resource. Resources don’t do anything until they are acted upon.

To leave it in its natural state is to have it be essentially worthless.

Now there is a deeper argument to be had here I’m sure but to equate it to places on Earth and terrestrial environments is kinda silly

If humans leave Earth it will be as a Ai/huma hybrid, mostly AI. The human form as it exist today is not suitable for space travel and our life spans are not long enough to travel the distances required for interstellar travel.

The only human-related thing that has a remote possibility of traveling to deep space is humanity’s offspring, A.I.
