The news story from the Madison Journal:
quote:
Tallulah Police Chief Buster McCoy said officers with the Tallulah Police Deparment and Madison Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to 600 LaSalle Street at 4:51 p.m. after reports of a driver who left the scene of a crash.
“The fleeing driver was identified as Robert Ray Fortenberry, 56, of Tallulah,” McCoy said in a statement. “Fortenberry was driving a black SUV during the hit and run incident. He left the scene, exchanged vehicles, and returned to the residence in a silver Ford pickup truck.”
McCoy said Fortenberry exited the truck and began shouting profanities and threats at residents on the property. “At some point, Fortenberry returned to his truck and retrieved an assault rifle,” McCoy said. “He then reentered the property with the assault rifle and continued to threaten bodily harm while pointing the assault rifle at the individuals.”
According to police, Fortenberry fired one shot with the weapon before leaving the scene. He was later apprehended at 1206 LaSalle Street, where officers recovered the rifle....
Fortenberry was charged with eight counts of illegal use of a weapon, eight counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, eight counts of hate crimes and one count of terrorizing. He is being held in the Madison Parish Jail on a $215,000 bond.

Why not attempted murder?

The real crime was wearing those “pants” looking things.

1. Because he fired it up into the air and not at anyone.
2. It’s Tallulah. He knows somebody.

Im surprised he got arrested. I would have thought you’d get some kind of a medal for that in Tallulah.

Charged with hate crimes??

That seems laughable on the surface. How the hell do you prove a hate crime. Just because he’s white and they’re black doesn’t make it a hate crime.
All the other charges I’m good with though. frick that gimp a-hole. And good on the dude filming for not shooting him, because he had every right to and it would’ve been justified. If someone comes in my property like that with a gun, pointing it, SHOOTING it, and telling me he’s gonna “put one in my head,” he isn’t leaving my driveway alive.

Sadly I know the guy. He’s the driver of the truck that overturned on the levee at delta a couple of weeks ago

He can be damn glad that guy had alot of restraint.
He should be in a box in the ground doing shite like that. Thats about dumb af.

No love for north Louisiana? If this had been in some white boot wearing baw in south Louisiana this thread would be 29 pages by now.

Fifty-five years old and looking in poor health. Seeing as he was trespassing and he fired his weapon, a twenty-year sentence is reasonable. That old man is likely to die in prison because he lacked impulse control.
Hope it was worth it.

Tallulah is about 80% black. This is one of last remnants of white people that live there. The police chief and all leadership is black so hate crime was a given.

And who woulda thunk that.
So absolutely despicable even though he was wrong AF on more than one level but hate crime crap is used to show power.
Stupid.

The police chief is unpopular as hell since the town has been under a curfew for the past 10 months. He is trying to score points with the residents to keep from getting kicked out of office.
ETA: I used to work in Tallulah and know the accused and the chief of police. Buster McCoy is a POS, power hungry, authoritarian. He represents all that is wrong with small town law enforcement officers.

How is that a “hate crime?” He even said he “love black people” and started naming black folks who worked for him.
I’d love to know what led to the situation. It sounded like someone/some people were in the middle of the street. Was a group of people standing in the middle of the street and not moving for vehicles and he hit one or two people?
