LAKE CHARLES ? Federal immigration authorities arrested 11 workers last week at the Port of Lake Charles who allegedly lacked permanent legal status to be in the United States, the New Orleans office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Monday.
Port leaders have stressed to companies and contractors who operate there that the burden for ensuring any immigrant workers have legal status lies with their employer.

None of the arrested individuals were port employees but worked for “various contractors or tenants working at the port,” Self and Ringo said.
According to ICE, the arrested individuals are from Mexico, Ecuador, and Nicaragua. The agency has provided no additional information on the people arrested or whether they have been detained, released or placed in deportation proceedings.

Time for the young men and teens of America to take their jobs back.
Historical these jobs went to black and white men who were starting their careers. Then came massive waves of illegal immigration and these jobs were taken by 30 and 40 years old illegals.
Our young men were regulated to working at Walmart and fast food and destroyed the will of our domestic work force and we became dependent on foreign workers

I have a friend in west texas that’s owns/operates a small safety company(drilling/completions). We were at lunch in midland one day when someone called to get someone registered to get onto a location.
She asked for their name, birthday, last four of their social and a copy of their license. She got a pic of a Mexican ID back. She said it happens a lot.

Those contractors need to be heavily fined. Their labor is cheaper and keeping their contract costs down. Force them to compete with companies hiring American employees.

Sounds good but many don’t won’t to work and/or can’t pass a drug test.
And I agree with the other poster that these employers need to be heavily fined.

Sugar cane season should be interesting this year.

So, why are we not holding these businesses accountable for clearly employing illegal immigrants over legal US citizens?

You think procurement depts GAF?
They see a bid 30% less than everyone else's and they don't care; they award it.
Procurement people make HR people look like MVPs.

11....that's it?
They should bring all the employees into an office and verify their work documents, it would be more than 11.

The end affect of this will actually be pretty solid for wages.
What they could get away with paying illegals ain’t gonna cut it.
To get decent employees, these places are gonna have to actually pay workers goood pay so they can actually attract solid employees

The illegals who can barely read a stop sign in English hired to drive big water and sand hauler trucks out there make the roads increasingly dangerous.
Along with the American-born bros who drive those things hopped up on 17 Redbulls and God knows what else to make a 16 hour day of hauling.
