Heard they pulled a not insignificant number of illegal Vietnameae immigrants. Mostly overstayed visa's and the like... some were expired for decades.

Nearly 11,000 deportations in a month?

I don’t believe that.
Of course it's bullshite. There would've been media coverage of the cargo planes and troop trains moving the entire population of Breaux Bridge in a one month period.

Safe to assume the deportations came from the entire metropolitan area, not just the city limits

yeah, they are probably taking all deportations from the metro and using just Orleans population numbers.

2010 census was 343k (29% drop)
Part of me wonders where did all these people live in 2000? Were they all in the East and 9th ward?

Drive through almost any part of the city and you see where population has been lost. Even Gentilly has not recovered. The East and Lower 9th are certainly more bare though.

Pair that with areas that look full but have less population due to things like doubles being converted to single residences.

Not really, people just misinterpreted the data/context was lacking.

Fake news. I remember at one point the news reported it being only a few hundred(less than 500). Numbers getting manipulated somehow.

It's propaganda type data. Click bait without any explanation.

I mean, they were either processed through them or they weren't. Nothing in that tweet indicates those numbers were strictly from the city of New Orleans, merely done by that field office. That office covers 6 states. But sure, call it whatever you want.
